Chadwick New and Mr and Mrs Lester Wolstenholm of Milledgeville were Sunday supper guests of Mr and Mrs Howard Baker. Carol returned home with them. Mr and Mrs Rush Carroll of Thomson and Mrs Ivan Carroll visited Ivan Carroll in Morrison hospital Sunday. Mrs Elizabeth Parsons celebrated her birthday Sunday and received about 50 birthday cards from friends.
Embers of the Carroll county livestock committee and livestock truckers prepared regulations to standardize trucking practices and cut mileage. A committee, led by Her man Daehler, drafted rules while Buford urged loading facilities, pre sorted stock, and coordinated consignments to save gas and rubber.
Permits to purchase farm machinery and equipment were issued during Nov 8 to Nov 13 by the Carroll county farm machinery rationing committee. Glenn Ward Dresbach 52, formerly of Lanark, wife of the poet Glenn Ward Dresbach, died Nov 11 in Hot Springs Ark. Funeral with full military honors by Walker-Wilson Post 9 and Morton Funeral Home officiated by Rev Louis V Stemnae. burial at Eureka Springs IOOF cemetery. Mary Angela Boyle Dresbach 62, Army Nurse Corps veteran who served in World War I, died Nov 11 at Hot Springs National Park Ark. She married Glenn Ward Dresbach Jan 29 1921 in El Paso. Survived by husband, siblings and other relatives. previously commander of Chas Y Crouse Post 357 in Illinois.
Funeral services were conducted for Julia May Lewin 64 of Savanna at 3 p m on Thursday November 11. She died at her home November 10 from heart trouble. Burial will be in Russell Ill. Surviving are daughter Mrs Margaret McCue and granddaughter Mrs John Miller both of Savanna, plus brothers and half siblings. Also reported: Lewis Coleman 68 died in Mt Carroll after a long illness with service at Frank funeral chapel and burial at Oak Hill cemetery. George W Dorty 79 of Shannon found dead at son Walter’s Lorantown home. Funeral services held at Dorty home and Bethel Evangelical Church with burial in Brethren cemetery. Surviving are widow daughter and extended family.
About 25 persons from Lanark Milledgeville and Mt Carrol attended Carroll county council of civil defense meeting in Milledgeville. Fred Rhodes Jr Mt Carroll county chairman presided. Reports covered civil defense activities salvage drive and war fund progress. Next meeting set for December 1 in Lanark.
October subsidy payments to Carroll County dairymen under the dairy feed subsidy will be distributed in late November at community meetings across Mt. Carroll Savanna Lanark Milledgeville Thomson Chadwick and other trade centers. Producers should bring evidence of amounts sold to correct errors. payments under $1 in October roll over to November-December.
Delmar Lang of Lanark was elected master of Pomona Grange of Whiteside and Carroll counties at a session with Genesee Grange in the Coleta town hall. Fifty-seven members from Milledgeville Rock Creek Genesee Galt Jordan and Clyde Granges attended.
Under the gasoline rationing regulations the Carroll county war price and rationing board will deny special gasoline rations if other transport is available and the applicant is able to travel. Special rations may still be issued for illness but require comprehensive evidence and careful review. Mrs Lena Tler of Sterling visited Mr and Mrs Joseph Grim on Sunday.

Herman Daehler chair of Carroll county AAA describes a practice based 1944 program for production and conservation. Farmers may earn a land per acre payment plus an orchard and noncrop pasture allowance by carrying out 15 defined practices such as contour strip cropping, field strip cropping and soil improvements. Three extra practices yield additional payments. Forestry seeding is excluded to favor immediate production. Some non paid practices remain encouraged. Signups begin in January.
Mount Carroll high school released the 1943 1944 basketball schedule. The lineup includes November 24 Fulton at Mt Carroll and a December invitational tournament. Conference games are marked by an asterisk and Buckeye town teams appear in sequence across November through February.
C M Dambman was a business caller in Freeport Monday. Mr and Mrs Charles Deets visited Mrs Frances Halfman in Savanna for her 73rd birthday Sunday. Paul Halfman and Bud Riddle of Savanna were Sunday evening callers of the Deets. Dinner guests Sunday included Mr and Mrs Gail Deets, Glen Millhouse and son of Milledgeville, and Bryce Wolfe and his daughter of Sterling. Bryce Wolfe and family were supper guests. Don Kness and son visited the Eggerts on Sunday.
Members of the Carroll county dairy transportation committee met at Mr. Carroll last week to explain the purpose and operation of the group. Maps of individual milk truck routes are being completed and a master map will show overlapping routes. A four man committee of county milk processors will oversee the master map and suggest changes to prevent route overlaps, with drivers consulted as needed.
Carroll county grand jury returned three indictments on opening day of November circuit court session. Harold Kessinger, 16, Whitehall, charged with larceny of an automobile, admitted guilt and was sentenced to one to five years. Eo Thompson, 21, Shannon, charged with hog larceny near Shannon on Nov. 7, held on $500 bond. One indictment was suppressed.
Mount Carroll cooperative creamery now Producers Creamery of Mt Carroll announces expansion to boost community service. Directors cite wartime demand and cooperative support for improved manufacturing and sales. Since 1921 the plant has produced 8,136,091 pounds of butter and paid dairymen nearly three million dollars.
The Carroll County Tuberculin Testing program finished this week with 26 seniors and eight grade pupils teachers and janitors taking test. There were 42 positive reactors and 284 negative reactors. All positive reactors were x rayed. Savanna had 111 persons taking test and 8 were positive reactors. Thomson had 24 persons take test and one person reacted positive to test. Mr. Carroll had 50 persons take test and 9 were positive reactors. Chadwick had 20 persons take test and there were no positive reactors. Milledgeville had 838 persons take test with & positive reactors, Lanark had 65 persons take test with 12 positive reactors, Shannon had 23 persons take the test and there were 4 positive reactors. This work is financed by the Carroll Tuberculosis association who derive their funds from the sale of Christmas seals.
Local selective service board released induction orders for a group of Carroll county men to report at an induction station and possibly enter military service. Names include Earl Thompson, Joseph Horner, Albert Nalley, John Calvert, Alfred Olson, and many others, with additional lists of recent army and navy acceptances.
Officials and members from Carroll County Farm Bureau travel to Chicago for the Illinois Agriculture Association annual meeting. Some return Tuesday evening while others stay through the three day session ending today. Voters weigh an ordinance by the Savanna city council to buy gas and electric properties from Northwestern Illinois Utilities and issue $850,000 in bonds. Judge F J Stransky questions price, suggesting the company could fetch more than par and that Savanna would bear losses from selling current too cheaply. Local officials and area residents debate potential profitability and impact on Chadwick Thomson Mt Carroll communities that receive power from the Savanna plant. Benjamin Lewis of a Chicago bond house has previously discussed cross-city purchases with limited progress.
