The Village Board adjourned to publish the sewer hook-up ordinance including rates. Mayor Joe Shutters says residents may begin digging and arranging hook-ups now with two crews active. Homeowners pay from the property line to the house while the village covers from main to property line.
A local sale notice lists hunting and fishing licenses shotgun shells and rifle cart ridges with guns for sale or trade. Ball Band rubber footwear Timex watches watch bands and pins two walkie talkies offered. Deer hunter slugs pop candy and tobacco included. Month notations show T 11-17.
Over 160 has been collected during the recent Girl Scout fund drive. Funds go to the Freeport office to train leaders buy equipment and maintain camps. Local Scouts and leaders thank supporters and note upcoming planning meetings at VFW Hall Savanna and the Miller home. Grand jurors will not report Monday November 21 as per State's Attorney motion.
Church schedules list York Community Church Methodist and Baptist services with times and teaching staff. Notices urge Union Thanksgiving Service at Baptist Church 7:30 pm and a potluck program at Hickory Grove on Nov 20.
The Union Thanksgiving Services are set for Sunday November 20 at 7 30 PM in the Baptist Church. Rev Donald Thomas of Mount Carroll Methodist Church will deliver the message with Rev Thomas Mohn away at Hickory Grove. Also part of the service are Rev T Cleworth and Rev Emer W Grafft. The program includes readings psalms prayers hymns offerings for the Crop program and a sermon by Rev Donald Thomas. A cordial welcome is extended to all.
Mr and Mrs Wesley Halver of Boron California visited the Myles Haas home for Thursday supper. Also present were Mr and Mrs R C Bush and daughter Debbie of Thomson.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parnell at Mercy Hospital Clinton on Saturday November 12. Another son named Todd Douglas arrived to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd England at Mercy Hospital Clinton on Sunday November 13. Kris Lizette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Houzenga, born November 6 at Morrison Hospital, weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces at birth.
Several residents from Elgin Savanna Mount Carroll Fulton Chadwick and Clinton are listed as patients or recent surgical cases. Names include Sick Mr Frank Johnson M J Strukhoff Ray Rupple Leaman Swett Albert Lynch Lucinda Legel Floyd Hyde Mary Milton Bessie Groharing Earle Mailand and Bernard Dykstra with admissions visits and recoveries noted at St Joseph Mercy Jane Lamb and Savanna Hospitals and Mercy Clinton facilities.
The Trojans lost 77 to 68 to Bellevue in the season opener. Thomson turned the ball over 18 times in the first half, while Joe Spencer scored 24 for the Trojans. In the second half the team improved with better shooting and rebounding, but the early deficit proved insurmountable. Frosh Soph fell 44 to 42 as Dennis Zink led with 16 points.
Mr and Mrs Larry Grim and family of Clinton were supper guests at the home of the Claude Grims on Wednesday night.
The Thomson American Legion Auxiliary hosted an Earlybird dinner for ninety-two Legion members and guests on Veterans Day November 11. A family style baked ham meal with all the trimmings filled white and red blue tables while volunteers cooked and served.
Mrs David Pease writes from England describing a London weekend with a two hour bus tour past the American Embassy near Grosvenor Square, St Pauls Cathedral, Big Ben and Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, Marble Arch, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street, Whitehall and Trafalgar Square. The family plans further visits to London landmarks and sends regards to friends and relatives. The letter is dated for late October and signed by Carol Dave Paula and Wayne Pease.
The World Fellowship committee of the Freeport YWCA will present An Evening with Pearl S Buck on December 9 at 8 p.m. in the Freeport Masonic Temple. Tickets are available from Mrs Glenn Wise and Lanark. Ph 493-2344. Also Thomson FFA will run a free vehicle safety check on Saturday November 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Thomson school with windshield stickers for safe vehicles. Nora McCullagh 84 of Garden Plain died Sunday in Tucson Arizona. Funeral Friday at Reynolds Morrison, burial Grove Hill. Nora Baker McCullagh born October 5 1882 married James McCullagh December 25 1901. Survivors include three grandchildren eight great grandchildren and one sister. The Thomson FHA canvassed for Carroll County Mental Health Association, raising about $80.
Neighbors surprised the couple on their 80th wedding anniversary with a Monday gathering. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Howard Leavens Mr and Mrs Clyde George and Mr and Mrs Harold Fedderson. The third birthday of Sue Ann Rathje was celebrated Sunday with parents Dean and Rathje grandparents Ernest Rathje of Thomson and Roy Cheney of Bellevue Iowa plus Ron Petesch and daughter of Hanover.
