The Village Board met in regular session November 6 with President Pro Tem Lewis and six trustees present. They approved minutes and bills, and voted to enforce nuisance ordinance No. 109 with notices to violators. They hired Warner Well Co. to repair and acidize well No. 3.
The Thomson Future Homemakers of America sponsor a Hobo Day on November 11 from 9 30 to 2 30 to raise funds. Members Debbie Reynolds Jane Holesinger Barb Schmitt list services such as leaf raking window washing and car cleaning with contact numbers and a call to the high school on Saturday for details. Judy Dykstra reports.
The Thomson Community Unit School District 301 lists the 1967 68 officers for each class and club. Officers include Freshman President Larry St Ores and Senior President Tony Holmquist, with numerous names for vice presidents secretaries treasurers reporters and sponsors across classes Future Homemakers Future Farmers of America Junior Officers Greenhand Club and Future Teachers of America are detailed with multiple student leaders and advisors.
New walkie talkie transistors offer 1 to 2 mile range for hunters. Insulated gloves mittens caps and hats. Shotgun shells rifle cartridges flash sites and batteries. Timex pocket watches and wrist watches. A few used shotguns and rifles. Pop candy ice cream cigars and tobaccos.
The Goodwill Industries truck will collect repairable clothing shoes and house wares for disabled trainees and employees in Thomson on Tuesday November 14. This is one day earlier than previously announced. For pickup arrangements call 259-2406. All employees at Goodwill are paid wages and do not pay tuition. It takes over 2000 barrels of material a year to serve one handicapped person annually.
The Brownies will start preparing for Christmas by meeting next week to begin making presents as reported by Susan Simpson.
The Thomson FFA held a regular session led by President Lawrence Bruckner. Michael Atherton delivered a report on gun safety. John Kustes outlined the December 1–2 trip and related activities. Green Hands initiation occurred. They allocated $5.50 to the teen club and formed a committee to award four chain gifts for the year. New manuals will be purchased for the chapter.
A Friday night birthday slumber party for Debbie Prins was held at her parents home with guests Kara Grim Mary Dykstra Pam Kaufman Paula Green and Sandy McCrudden. Debbie received several gifts and enjoyed supper. The nearby Firemen's Pancake Supper the following night attracted about 300 attendees and was deemed a success.
Otto C. Schulz, 69, of La Grange Illinois, was listed in fair condition at Mercy Hospital Clinton Iowa after a Route 84 crash 22 miles north of Fulton. Police say he failed to stop after cresting a viaduct behind a turning vehicle and swerved to avoid collision, hitting a tree as his car sustained heavy damage.
Herman M. Timmons 89 of Thomson died Friday in an East Moline hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at Fay Seesser funeral home in Fulton with burial in Lyndon Illinois. He was born August 13 1878 in Mount Alto Pennsylvania and married Dorothy Hauck in 1899. He later farmed in Fulton and worked for the C and NW railroad. Survived by his second wife Luella Farwell Green three sons four daughters nineteen grandchildren and forty three great grandchildren plus several siblings and stepchildren. Prior to death he had four daughters and one brother die.
Thomson fire department battled a blaze in a gas main near Archie Greens at 1 20 this afternoon. No damage was reported.
The Thomson PTA convenes Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria with speaker Tim othy Wenburg addressing the new Diversified Occupations program. Open House will be observed.
The Golden Rule Class will gather Wednesday at 6 30 PM for an annual church potluck supper. Rolls butter and beverages will be provided.
The WSCS will hold a breakfast at 9 30 Wednesday morning in the home of Mrs Paul Heusinkveld. Co host is Mrs Robert Plumiey. Mrs Harry Diehl will present the program Dont Keep Your Troubles To Yourself.
George LaShelle, 20, of Savanna, was arrested after aiding police in solving a series of Carroll County burglaries. He will be arraigned Monday on a single charge of house burglary. a 15 year old Savanna boy named as an accomplice faces juvenile court action.
Supper guests honored Jack Flickinger's birthday with Frank Potter hosting. Local families, including Rathje and Green households, visiters and weekend trips to Pecatonica Davenport Clinton. Club rosters list officers for Girls Athletic Association Science Club and Letterman's Club with the Smiley family convalescing at home.
Twenty eight students are named on the first honor roll of the year at York Schools. High Honors go to Nancy Bruckner and Kara Grim. Listing includes many juniors and seniors with no grade below B on the regular honor roll. No junior high student qualified for High Honors. nine made regular honor roll.
Monday offers baked beans cabbage salad bread and butter applesauce brownies and orange juice with milk. Tuesday serves lasagna cottage cheese baking powder biscuits fruit. Wednesday features chicken noodle soup peanut butter or cheese sandwiches and cake. Thursday provides turkey and dressing potatoes gravy peas cranberry salad and ice cream. Friday includes orange juice pizza burgers buttered corn and chocolate pudding.
The Thomson Woman's club met November 2 in the school cafeteria with President Mrs. Robert Carroll presiding. They voted to donate 10 to the Thomson Teen Club and 10 to the Girl Scouts. New street signs for Thomson were announced as ready for presentation to the village board. Other donors included American Legion 100 Lions Club 50 and York Cedar 4-H Club 10. Civil Defense director Mark E Barnes outlined four keys to disaster resilience and discussed flood response and tornado safety. Free Civil Defense courses are available through County leaders and local sheriffs. The door prize went to Mrs. Marion Wheeler.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Krahn are proud parents to an 8 lb 2 oz baby girl named Julie Kay born Monday November 6 at Savanna City Hospital. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Krahn and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Olds.

Cathy Sippel daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Sippel underwent an emergency appendectomy Thursday evening at Savanna City Hospital. She was dismissed Wednesday and is convalescing at home. Mrs Meta Krahn of Savanna admitted Wednesday afternoon to Mercy Hospital Clinton Iowa as a medical patient. She is the mother of John Krahn. Virgil Wilt was an overnight patient Sunday at Savanna City Hospital.
Deer season begins 6 30 a m Friday November 10 and runs to 4 p m Wednesday November 15 Hunters may take one deer per calendar year with firearms limited to specified shotguns or muzzleloaders and a deer permit required Illinois residents only Hunters must wear vivid red orange or yellow and display a permit while carrying 1967 license in possession All deer must be checked at designated stations and hunting hours are daily from 6 30 a m to 4 p m
Total ticket sales and sausage sales brought in about 550 dollars. Firemen anticipate a net profit around 300 dollars. The community answered the plea for pies and some were left over. They thank all who donated pies for the supper and express appreciation for the help.
Mrs. John Sloan expresses gratitude for the cards visits calls and kindness shown during her hospital stay and after her return home. She thanks friends and neighbors for their thoughtfulness which she says will be long remembered.
