Chadwick Senior Dies After Route 88 Crash

David Kaufman a Chadwick high school senior died of injuries after a Saturday afternoon car tractor crash two miles north of Chadwick on Route 88. David Schneider 35 suffered severe head injuries and concussion. The two vehicles collided and burned, firemen freed Kaufman, he later died in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Funeral services for Kaufman were held in Morrison.

Library Club Schedules Thom son High School Book Fair

The Library Club at Thom son High School will sponsor a student book fair from November 12 to 14 in the Grade School Library. Open 1 to 3 50 pm daily and 1 night during the PTA Open House on November 13. Books cover classics fiction biographies science and more. Proceeds support local projects and reading initiatives.

Carroll County 4-H honors 106 members and supporters

One hundred six 4-H members in Carroll County were honored for their work with the 4-H program on Navy. Three adults received awards including Janice Forth and Lawrence Bruckner as top 4-H awards. The delegation to National 4-H Congress will travel via Santa Fe Railroad to Chicago November 29 to December 5.

Thomson School Faculty Halloween Party

Members of the Thomson school faculty held a masquerade party at the Thomson Legion hall with committee chairmen Michael Highland Mrs Dagny Bauer Floyd Griffin and Mrs Adeline Hill. Prizes honored costumes while games and dancing entertained attendees and plans for another party were already underway.

Hallowe'en Frolic Winners List at Thomson Parade

Approximately 200 pre school and grades 1 to 6 students paraded in costume during Thomson Mardi Gras festivities drawing about 400 attendees. Grand champions were sisters Kelli and Jeannette Kennedy as Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. other top finishers included Rodney Trip as an alarm clock and Danny Wiersema as Snoopy.

Early duck hunting charges arise in Thomson area

Nine youths and adults from Thomson face charges for shooting before hours on opening day of duck season near Thomson. Hearings set for November 10 in Carroll County Circuit Court. Additional arrests for pre hour hunting, unplugged shotguns, and protected species. Other court actions include probation for theft, dismissal of aggravated battery, and traffic-related fines in Savanna and Mount Carroll courts.

Thomson Band Wins Second in Clinton Mardi Gras Parade

Crowds along the Clinton parade route cheer as the Thomson High School Varsity band led by Kathy Johnson and with Queen Rhonda Fehler and King Larry McWorthy earns second place in the competitive band judging. Clinton high school wins the top honors. The Thomson band, directed by Floyd Griffy, previously won first in Platteville Wisconsin.
