Big Reunion Booked With Legion Convention Events

Delegates from 25 posts in northwestern Illinois are expected to attend the Solliers and Sailors reunion in Savanna as part of the annual district convention. The event features free acts, rides, shows, a firework display, and a parade. Sponsored by American Legion, American Legion posts, and Veterans groups, it aims to be larger than ever despite the Fourth of July falling on Sunday. The plan includes Independence Day observance on Monday July 5 with a full program at Old Mix Park.

Shannon School Head Resigns to Move to Orangeville

Old Mill Remains Demolished Near Milledgeville

The remains of a long standing waterpower mill built by Joseph M. Wilson near Milledgeville are being demolished by Gust Warner's heirs. Built May 1, the mill had not operated since the 1880s due to a damaged dam and disuse. The site drew visitors seeking a glimpse of Pennsylvania style waterwheel era mills. The nearby Landon mill, also timber built and long unused, is among the oldest wooden mills in the region.

Masons Plan Dedication of Chadwick Hall New Lodge Home

Masons announce the dedication of Chadwick Hall as the new home of Chadwick Lodge No. BGT in Carroll County. Grand Master of Illinois will preside at a dedicatory service in the Chadwick lodge, followed by a reception and program at the high school gym. The second floor hall features a dining room, large kitchen, lobby and refinished rooms, with most work completed by lodge members to minimize expense.

Banks and post offices observe holiday on Memorial Day

Banks and postal employees will close on Monday May 3 in observance of Memorial Day a legal holiday. Banks will be closed and there will be no rural mail delivery with post offices open only for a brief morning period.

Thirteen pupils will receive diplomas at Chestnut Park grade school in Sagarina on Wednesday evening June 2. The class includes eight boys and five girls. Aged Lanark Pastor Dies On Sunday

The Rev. T. Livengood of Lanark died Sunday morning after a long county life of service. He founded Milledgeville and Lanark churches, was pastor in Lanark since 1890, and officiated at his longtime church’s memorial services. He is survived by his son and three brothers.

Kindergarten Teacher Transferred to Rock Island

Miss Mary Trader of Savanna, longtime supervisor of the Chestnut Park WPA kindergarten project, is reassigned to Rock Island to oversee a WPA nursery school. She will begin May 21, and the Chestnut Park kindergarten program appears to be discontinued.

Plan For Last High School Exercises Across Seven County Schools

Preparations in seven county high schools for final senior activities include baccalaureate services on Sundays and commencement events in late May and early June. Thomson and Shannon held baccalaureate last Sunday with commencements planned for May 28, while Chadwick Milledgeville Lanark and Mt Carroll schedule ceremonies June 3 and 4. Lanark’s and Milledgeville’s commencements set for June 3. Chadwick and St Carroll for June 4. Chadwick will host baccalaureate May 31 with Rev L M Philips. Lanark’s speaker Rev T D Leatherman. Bristol Pupil Tops Eighth Grade Finals in County

Bristol rural school pupil Robert Elmer Balk topped the eighth grade finals with the highest mark among 114 entrants. Final exercises for 112 diplomas span Mt. Carroll Chadwick and Lanark this week with programs led by local teachers and officials.
