Voters in Mt Carroll Township will decide in a special election at 1 o clock 5 minutes on whether to issue $35,000 in bonds to finance gravel road construction. Town Clerk B L Smith called the election after a voter petition requesting action was presented to him.

Three people died in separate crashes in the Freeport region over the week. Oliver Grice, 24, of Shannon, was the driver in the first wreck on Route 2. Lois Schroeder, Freeport resident, died from injuries suffered in that crash. Maynard Preston, 21, of a farm south of Fair Maven, died at Morrison hospital after his car struck a bridge on the Chadwick Morrison road. Schroeder attended the Shannon alumni dinner with Grice. both were returning to Freeport when their car hit a cement culvert.
Carroll Chapter Dau ghters of the American Revolution elected the slate for the coming two year term at the final meeting held at Mt Carroll residence of Mrs Sd Campbell. Officers named include honorary regent Mrs Campbell repent Mrs Packard Lanark vice regent Miss Bertha Corbett Mt Carroll secretary Mrs Glen Wise Lanark treasurer Miss Rose Demmon Mt Carroll registrar Miss Ida Hartman Mt Carroll historian and Mrs George Morris Lanark chaplain. Mary Doty and Paul Rall Savanna high school students won the county wide galaxy contest prizes of three and two dollars respectively to be awarded at Savanna class night on June. Thirty two county high school students participated. Campbell retiring regent reported on the Continental Congress held April in Memorial hall Washington DC.
The Mississippi Valley Lines received a certificate from the State Commerce Commission to operate motor bus service between Savanna Mt Carroll Lanark Shinnonam Freeport along routes 26 and 72 and U S Route 32. The commission noted current rail service between Savanna and Freeport is insufficient, approving limited daily service to meet public needs.
Announcement by William F. Hogan deputy receiver of Mt Carroll County State Bank says a 5 percent dividend will be paid to depositors on June 14. Dividend checks total 75 415 50 and this is the third dividend authorized by the receiver after prior payments of 30 percent and 7 percent.
