Carroll High School graduate employed by Freeport Insurance. Guentner is a Lanark High School graduate in the U. S. Air Force stationed at Mountain Home Idaho. No wedding date set.

Galena native John A. Bingham 88 died Friday in a Dubuque Iowa hospital after serving in the Illinois General Assembly from 1929 to 1946. Funeral services were held Sunday at Nash Funeral Home with burial in Elizabeth Cemetery. Born in Jo Daviess County he ran a farm implement business in Elizabeth and held posts as Jo Daviess County treasurer and deputy sheriff before his legislative career. He had lived at the DeSoto Hotel in Galena since 1910. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
The Northwest Junior League opens Sunday June 4 with Chadwick hosting Pearl City and Stockton facing Lena at 3 p.m. Weekday games will start at 7 p.m. Sunday games at 2 p.m. The seven inning schedule runs through July with Chadwick under coach lineups including Larry Pauley and Vic Hartman among the 13 players listed.

Mt. Carroll Mrs. Elizabeth Birdie Randecker 87 died Monday in Johnson Nursing Home Shannon after living there over two years. Funeral services were held in Freeport at Schwarz Funeral Home and St Marys Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. She was born in Washington DC to the McDermotts and married Conrad Randecker Feb 22 1897. Survivors include her husband Nathaniel Mt Carroll and a daughter Mrs Alfred Schramm Freeport.
Chadwick mourners attended the Lanark funeral last Thursday for Galen B Hoak. Among those present were Lloyd and Mary Handel Denton Naniga Ed and Frank Mest Clayton Kaul John Doty W J Schreiner and Henry Fink. Mrs Arthur Frommell Jr of Sterling also attended.
Ridge District Boy Scouts from 160 troops gathered at Palisades State Park for a weekend Camporee. They camped Friday and cooked on site, then competed in Rodeo events including Shovel Race, Horse Racing, Lassoing, Jumbo Jousting, and Best Campsite honors with top results for Troop 52 prison, Troop 95 Galena, Troop 46 Savanna, Troop 50 Chadwick, Troop 45 Savanna, and Troop 36 Hanover.

The U S Grant Council Boy Scouts of America held its annual business meeting on May 17 at Florence's Restaurant Freeport. Glenn Schwendiman was reelected President. Alan Goodmiller, Walter Seeman, Nat G Preston, Frank Doescher, and Glenn Lewendiman named officers and board members with many others listed as executives and advisory members. A resolution honored Robert Konig for Canyon Camp gift anniversary.
Sterling plan for former Brown's Business College and Scovill Schools alumni to meet on June 24 at The First Congregational Church of Sterling with a 6 to 7 p m social hour and 7 p m banquet and program. Miss Alice E Johnson handles reservations at 504 E 5th St Sterling for 2 50 each, deadline June 17. Husbands and wives welcome. graduation not required.

About 125 people attended a piano recital by Mrs. Lorelei Rocha’s students at 3 p m on Sunday May 21 at Hope church. Peggy Reiff and Randy Livengood presented a corsage to Mrs Rocha. Refreshments followed.
The Special Events Committee of the Lanark Centennial Association will release 1500 helium balloons on May 28 at 2 30 P M D S T at the High School Athletic Field. Prizes to the tag winner from the furthest point. Afterward a Comedy ball with Bearded Old Timers and the warb aseball Team. Centennial Band concert and ice cream social follow at City Park. All to promote OUR HERITAGE A CENTURY IN LANARK June 21-24 at 8 30.
Moody Steel Products of Taylorville won the Shannon and Cherry Grove culvert projects with bids of 451 and 737 dollars. Kutz Bros. won the crushed rock supplies for 3215 and 8042 dollars. Howard Nelson of Lanark submitted the maintenance bid in Cherry Grove for 1057 dollars. All projects are motor fuel tax funded.
Friday in Carroll county court Judge Edward Turnbaugh presided. Harvey L. Kennedy of Hanover was found guilty of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Adam Beck of Mt. Carroll was fined for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Each defendant paid $300 and costs.
Lyle Imel of Mt Carroll and Stanley Helle of Savanna were fined $50 and costs after appearing before Justice of the Peace George Coden. Complaints signed by Sheriff Harry Miller cited a Friday night brawl in Mt Carroll where Imel sustained a minor knife injury and Helle suffered facial wounds.
A marriage license was issued to Richard R. Speer of Elizabeth and Darlene D. Speer of Mt. Carroll in Carroll County.

The Lanark Rocketts 4-H club gathered May 20 at leader Mrs. O Schoonhoven home. President Sandra Gravenstine presided as members planned the Share the Fun event for July 6. Beginners Lois Huggins demonstrated making brownies, Jean Schmitt showed sewing buttons, Sandra Gravenstine modeled, and material pressing was demonstrated before adjournment and refreshments.
Mr and Mrs Curtis Naniga were guests in the Dean Bealer home in Fenton on Sunday with their brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Paul Kier arriving Saturday from Bradenton Florida to spend the summer at their Fenton home.
Funeral services for Galen Burner Hoak former Lanark resident were held in Downers Grove and Lanark with rev Merle Hanbecker officiating. Burial in Lanark cemetery. Survivors include wife Kathryn three children and two step children plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Relatives traveled from several states to attend.
Memorial Day services organized by American Legion posts and Auxiliary units will take place in area communities next Tuesday May 30. The day is observed as a national holiday with most businesses and many offices banks and post offices closed. Post office lobbies will operate under holiday hours typically 9 to 10 a.m.
Fair Haven Community Club will meet Monday evening at the Fair Haven school house for a short business meet ing. Graduating exercises for 8th graders will follow at 7 30 p m with Gordon Hansen county superintendent of schools as guest speaker. You are invited to attend.
