Mt Carroll high school is favored to win the Little Four track and field meet in Carroll, with Shannon Milledgeville Lanark and Chadwick competing. Grade events start at 10, high school prelims at 10 and finals at 1:30. Events include sprints, distance, high jump, broad jump, pole vault and shot put.
The executive committee met at Charles Harris hardware in Chadwick and set Savanna as the May meeting site. The event will be held Monday evening May 22 at 8 o clock in the Savanna Township High School auditorium. Members present included J H Shirk Al Spanogle Lee Shaver Geo Morris Charles Harris H L Spearman George Dachler Arthur Deets H L Rawlins Foster Stagg Julian Jack and others.
At a county meeting the board asked for help securing Route 171 from a taxpayer group. A motion was presented and a resolution to the Carroll County Board was forwarded by President Shirk. Walter Watson, County Clerk, notes the Carroll County Taxpayers Association offers to assist in any way.
George Burney Gifford, of Mr. Carroll, will umpire all home league games for Carroll County Farm Bureau. Games are at Cook's Field between Lanark and Chadwick. Gifford is an experienced ball player and well versed in baseball rules.
More than 100 members of the American Legion attended the Savanna monthly meeting Tuesday evening. Visitors from Clinton Ta and Tampico were present. The group accepted an invitation to attend the state convention in Rockford from August 26 to 28.
Late Tuesday Supt. L S Gnagey postponed Chadwick dedication due to death of Charleston Teachers College President Charles Lord. State Supt Francis Blair will visit Friday or Saturday, with Chadwick events resuming Monday or Wednesday. program includes gypsy song finale and a school diploma ceremony.

A federal plan cuts wartime veteran benefits, saving Carroll county about $92,800 and totaling over $156,000 across nine northern counties. In Carroll, 13 veterans with no service connection lose benefits, while 611 with service-connected injuries receive a 20 percent cut. Total annual savings exceed $363,000 nationwide, with monthly reductions around $5,254.
Mrs J E Gnagey of Milledgeville was elected president of the Church of the Brethren at Dutchtown Missouri Mother and Daughter association. Mrs Dwight Turner was chosen vice president Miss Ethel Provant named secretary and Mrs Harry Stoner elected treasurer. The annual meeting at the Dutchtown church Friday evening drew seventy five mothers and daughters for a crewship supper and program.

Dewgates Iron Evangelical Young People association from northern Mihitom gather at Chadwick on Friday for a rally at the park. Polo, Preeport, Forreston, Daven, Rock City, Dixon, Sterling, Shannon and Chadwick will be represented. Rev A Shaffer of Dixon will speak, with a social hour and games afterward. Refreshments by Mrs Linker's class. Rev S G Eberly will lead devotions. Ruthberry, chair. Harry Folk of Polo leads the group and will preside.
April births outnumbered deaths in the county with eight boys and five girls born. The oldest death was Mrs Lacey Griffith 85 and youngest Lavonne Sturtevant 3. One accidental death occurred to Lavonne.
Judicial elections in Sixth Supreme Court district feature candidates for Supreme Court Justice and three Circuit Court judges. Democrats run a full slate alongside Independent George T. Lidell of Rockford. Incumbent Oscar Heard and challenger Elwyn Shaw vie for the Supreme Court post amid a crowded field involving county judges and notable attorneys.
Milledgeville churches hosted Carroll County’s annual Council of Religious Education gathering. Sessions opened with songs led by J H Mathis, and Rev G E Cone gave the benediction. Officials were elected for the county group and committees organized.
