Veterans of army and navy whose remains rest in York cemeteries will receive memorial tributes on Memorial Day. Two programs start at 2 PM at Argo Fa church and Masonic Hall, with readings, prayers, songs, and decorations of graves, followed by cemetery visits and floral tributes by relatives and friends.
Friday May 26 CG AL and Commencement Exercises at High Street Gym at 8. Monday May 29 Jamshi supper and dance at Y I S Gem Supper at 6 30. Tuesday May 30 Memories Day services at Mabenic Hall Thomson High School Grounds 7 o'clock. Memorial Day Services at Argo Methodist church then cemetery 2 o'clock. Wednesday May 31 Sixth Grade Commencement at High School Gym.
Democratic candidates for Supreme and Circuit Court judges plan an eight stop county tour starting Monday May 29 in Carroll County an area long Republican. A caravan will open in Shannon at 9 AM with outdoor meetings inviting all voters to hear the candidates. Stops run Shannon Lanark Miledgeville Mt Carroll Lowell Chadwick Argo Fa Thomson Savanna with session times and a June 12 high school meeting for the shipping association. Ed Mest and daughter Gladys of Chadwick visited Thomson.
The eighth grade ceremony will be Wednesday May 81 at 8 o'clock at Meh shoal gun. Program includes Roberta Lewis invocation Rev John Bruce class prophecy Mary Prins class history David Switzer selections Tis Morning and The Gypsy's Song by 8th grade girls choir address Rev David Todd class day award American Legion Medals H A Cate presentation of diplomas W A Adams benediction Rev John Bruce. Lynn Curley had the barn re shingled. Mr and Mrs Olmstead of Mari Rette Wis visited their daughter Mrs Fuhnnie Pape and family. Sunday callers at Sam Grim home included Frank Kamel Mtledgerilie and Bert Grim Mt Carroll and George Stein. Harriet Klug e of Chicago returned to stay with sister Emma Steele after visiting relatives Jim Me Carroll. Memorial day plans include Mt Carroll visit with mother Mrs Steber. Athlene Guar will finish teaching duties at Elizabeth grade school Friday and visit home briefly before summer camp plans in mid June.
Churches report no preaching services with Sunday school at 10 and evening worship at 7 30. The Ladies Aid meets Thursday May 25 with Mrs Will Triswold for an all day session after last Thursday's postponement due to heavy rains. Live Wire class held their monthly meeting last Thursday evening hosted by Ruth Carrall with a large attendance and a short program. Ideal and Methodist church notes include probation classes and union services with flowers planned for the next Sunday, plus calls to greater church involvement.

The American Legion and Auxiliary unit will observe Poppy Day on May 27 the Saturday before Memorial Day. Poppies are sold throughout Thomson with headquarters at Lewis Motor Co chaired by Mrs Paul Lewis. Proceeds aid disabled veterans and honoring World War I dead.
Mrs Nellie Hastings will spend her vacation in LaGrosa Wisconsin with her son and wife Alva Hastings. Emil Hemmer and family plan to visit Stendal Indiana with relatives. Miss Thomas seeks Chicago for summer employment in commercial work. Nell Burns may return to Chicago or Denver to visit her uncle. Decia Brooks stays at Dixon home most of summer. Harriet Zugschwerdt to spend time in Chadwick with parents. Demaree family stay Thomson home and Leary rests near Shannon.
Mr and Mrs Gden Bowers reported their car stolen Saturday while they visited friends on Vunianeheave Street. Two young men used the vehicle for a joy ride. the car was found on Second Avenue with four occupants and items taken from it. Leland Dean pleaded guilty to taking an auto without consent and received 30 days in county jail. Miss Mary Cone visited Atego family this weekend and returned Sunday.

The ceremony features decor by flowers class colors and a Valedictorian Mary Switzer and Salutatorian Lucille Stickell Rev Barclay will deliver the commencement address and Rush Carroll will present diplomas.

The U S will hold its regular session Thursday evening May 24 at the lodge rooms. Royal Neighbors appointed committees to decorate graves on Memorial Day. Supervisor James J Sheridan announces three York youths Willie Reynolds Elwin Rice and Wesley Reynolds will take an examination Monday at Mt Carroll for the Roosevelt era reforestation program. The township is allowed two but excess demand allows three entrants. an officer from the Proving Grounds will supervise the test. The Flickinger Brothers of Lanark leased the Sand Slough Resort, planning to open around June 1.
Charles Wilt spends time in a wheelchair on the porch when weather allows. Mrs. George Potter was taken to Savanna for removal of a deeply embedded needle fragment in her hand. Mrs. William Heinze remains bedridden six weeks with heart trouble. Mrs. Lillian Stratton stays home with her daughter. Mrs. Carl Longanecker near Morrison and Mrs. Wil Berthelf rely on care from Everett Vanderlaan after two recent strokes. Bob Geasrd, ill with pneumonia, shows light improvement at his sister’s in Lanark. Verna Sack suffers a painful eye injury from a golf ball at Beloit, the eye socket broken but pupil unharmed. doctors say sight may not return and she cannot attend summer school.
