Rockford County high schools dominated the district meet with Rockford High winning for the 14th consecutive year and Chadwick Mt. Carroll Lanark each earning state finals spots. Delbert Emyre of Chadwick took 2nd in broad jump 20 ft 3 in. Donald Wilcox of Mt. Carroll won the 440 yd dash in 53.1 sec. Milton Kuhleman won the discus 135 ft 3 in and placed second in high jump 5 ft 8 in. Lanark's D Keever took 3rd in shot put and 5th in discus.

4-H Federation Organized From County Clubs

Plaintiff Wins $500 in Mt. Carroll Hog Disease Case
Emil Knapp of near Mt. Carroll was awarded $500 by a circuit court jury. Knapp sought $1,000 from Harry Kipnis of Mt. Carroll over hog losses from August 21, 1936. Evidence said 14 hogs died of cholera and seven others contracted and died. Judge Leon A. Zick presided.

Lanark high school students won first in fat stock judging at the district spring contests held in Forreston. Savanna placed fifth in fat stock and third in dairy cattle while supplying the high individual in dairy judging. R McKean of Milledgeville was top fat stock individual. Officials and results from 19 schools highlight Orangeville as best all around in grain poultry fat livestock and dairy judging with 3620 points. John Gelwicks Carroll county circuit clerk underwent hernia surgery and is recovering.

Miss Margaret E. Johnson of Waterloo Iowa is named resident head of Bennett Hall at Frances Shimer College Mount Carroll. Bennett Hall is the campus’ newest residence rebuilt in 1937. Johnson holds degrees from Hamline and Western Reserve and studied at Harvard summer school. In 1937 she won the Audubon scholarship to Hog Island Maine.

Mt. Carroll piled up 66 points to win the Carroll Conference track meet at Chadwick. The Tigers captured seven firsts and set two county records including a 1:40.5 880-yard relay time. Chadwick and Lanark followed with 31.5 and 13 points respectively as windy conditions hampered many events.
Illinois total of old age pensions climbs in April
In Illinois 137,983 persons received old age assistance in April, up 470 from March. Average award was $20.54, up 16 cents from March, with total monthly expenditure $2,833,697. Over half of ongoing recipients saw award increases due to changes in conditions. Since December 1937, 91,000 award changes occurred.
