Two Army Officers Die In Plane Crash At S O D
Two Army officers were killed when an Army observation plane crashed on the Savanna ordnance depot reservation around 10:50 am. Names withheld pending next of kin notification. A military investigation is started and a guard is posted at the scene. The crew had departed Chicago municipal airport about 9 am.

Milledgeville Boy Loses Arm In Accident
Orville George Allen, one year old son of Mr and Mrs Orville G Allen of Milledgeville, suffered the loss of the lower part of his right arm Saturday when it was mangled in a hydraulic hoist. The youth was taken to Sterling hospital where the amputation was performed. The arm was removed between the elbow and shoulder. Carroll county residents over subscribed the April war bond drive totals to 1 179 988 20 dollars, with Lanark leading and Milledgeville among the sites contributing 106 275.00.

Nick C. Carstensen age 50 longtime Clinton automobile dealer died at 9 45 p m April 28 in Jane Lamb hospital. The body rests at the family home 846 7th avenue south with funeral 2 p m Sunday there. He was born June 1892 in Schleswig Germany came to America at twelve and started in auto sales in 1912 later running his own business until death. He married Zillah Kempster May 2 1917. Survived by wife son Billy Bruce sister Dina Jacobsen Denmark brothers Peter and William Carstensen England Denmark. He was active in Masons Elks Eagles Moose Turner society UCT and American Legion social circle.

Polo Hemp Mill to Open June 1 in Polo
Frank B. Wilson named manager of the hemp mill in Polo says completion by June 1 is hoped with full capacity by next fall. At peak the plant will employ 80 to 100 workers. Farmers in Ogle WhitesideLee and Carroll counties have grown over 4200 acres of hemp this year. The Polo mill is the first pilot plant in the state.
