Lee Haley of Libertyville was fined $10 and costs after pleading guilty before Justice Frank Schroeppel in Mt. Carroll. Haley, arrested by city marshal Carlos Johnston, admitted that a car he rode in struck the rear of a parked truck in the Mt. Carroll business district.

Five Injured in Savanna Auto Crashes
Five persons were injured in two automobile accidents near Savanna over Sunday and Monday. Mrs Lucy Jenks and Mrs Belle Wicks sustained fractures and serious injuries when a car with Mrs A Polk overturned near Fourth and Washington. Mrs Polk attempted to close a door, losing control. Miss Myrtle Rose’s house was struck. In the same period Cornelius O Heron and Mona Hungerford suffered severe head wounds when their car collided with a Clinton driver on Route 80. O Heron was treated and released, Hungerford remained hospitalized.

Chadwick high school typing team placed third in the Novice A class at the sectional high school commercial contest in Lena. The squad Maria Appel Marian Taylor and Mary Waters with Eloise Remmers as alternate qualified after second place at Savanna district meet on April 19. Savanna earned third in 90 word shorthand and 110 word contests. A Lynn of Savanna finished second in the Novice individual typing contest. Savanna amateur team also took third. Susan Greison of Savanna won the spelling contest. Robert Dole of Shannon won first in the individual bookkeeping contest. Winners advancing to the state contest in May.

Fountain G. Roberts of Kansas City Missouri former Savanna resident died April 22 in the I O O F home in Independence Missouri. Funeral services were held April 24 in Kansas City. He was uncle to local residents Mrs L L Law Mrs Russell Swift and Miss Marianna Fulrath and brother to the late Mrs C D Crouse. The state division of highways approved a motor fuel tax fund contract for Main street improvements in Thomson Carroll county. The project covers 0.52 mile of bituminous surfacing along Main street from Route 80 west 2,800 feet with a 18 and 24 and 64 foot width. A. Johnson & Co. Joliet awarded the contract for 4,076 dollars.
