The Mt Carroll post office grounds are to be landscaped after awarding the contract to Hoops Flower Gardens of Astoria for 515 dollars. A rival bid of 669 dollars was submitted by G. S. Birks Nursery of Rockford. Work to begin soon includes four Japanese yews near the entrance, five Crataegus Oxiyacanthas, two American elms, and regal privet around the building.

Lanark Woman Escapes Injury In West Rockford Crash
Miss Garnet Sargent, nurse at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, was bruised in a Saturday collision six miles west of Rockford with a car driven by Mrs. John F. Wolf of Lanark. Sargent’s car hit a culvert, burst into flames, and was destroyed. Mrs. Wolf escaped serious injury.
