Town residents enjoy milder weather with plans for Little League managers and a big Lions Club dance. Reports mention a new Carlyle lake project, street sweeping by Everett Wilt and Ozzie Cronister, and a thorough town cleanup push at Thomson.
University of Wisconsin basketball star Ken Seibel spoke Monday to Thomson grade and high school athletes and staff at the annual Lions Club banquet in Thomson. Seibel urged dedication devotion and desire as keys to success and showed a Wisconsin basketball film.
Notice of an April 14 1962 election in Carroll County Illinois to elect three school board members for District No 201 Precinct 1 York High School District No 20 voters will use York Community High School Gym as polling place polls open from 12 noon to 7 pm by order of the district school board dated March 29 1962 signed Charles Hogg president and Harold E Feddersen secretary
William Kendall and Claude Grim lead activities at York Community Church including worship at 10 30 AM and 9 30 AM services. Young People meet at 7 PM. Baptist and Methodist services and events fill dates in late March and early April with Holy Communion, film strips, rallies, and catechism. Catholic services listed for Fulton and Savanna.
The York Baptist Church men and women Bible class met Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Heitman. Attendees included John Hoff, Otto Switzer, Jennie Griswold, Robert Hill, Mrs. Clark, Claude Millard, and the Heitmans. John Hoff spoke on Africa and Robert Hill shared World War II Philippines experiences. Refreshments followed.

The Thom son High School senior class will stage Deadly Ernest a three act comedy in the school gym Friday April 6 at 730 pm. Cast includes Henry Ecrest Lynn Bower and Aunt Ethel Mary Ann Bender Evelyn Wilt and others with James Raikes directing and Alan Hickey Judy Hubble Peggy Eissens on the ticket and poster committee.
Richard Larsen the Thomson schools music director announces the annual spring concert on Wednesday evening April 11 in the school gym. The varsity and beginners bands perform with district contest pieces and district solos from Freeport. A newly formed eight member Mitchelllaires combo will play dance numbers.
The Future Homemakers of America chapter will observe National FHA Week April 1 through 7 with daily activities. Dress Up Day offers red roses for teachers. Welfare Day asks members to donate used clothing. World Friendship Day features speaker Miss Aurora Neves. Saturday includes a pancake breakfast and car wash. Sunday girls attend church as a group.
The Thomson Woman's club will meet next Wednesday April 4 at 8 PM in the school cafeteria for its monthly session. Mrs. Roy Heitman announces that Mr. Claire Golden of Port Byron world traveler will speak and show slides about his Africa trip. Members are urged to bring husbands and Vogue Sewing contest entrants should model their dresses for possible judging. The annual officer election will be held. Hostesses include Pherna Prins Bess Potter Laura Marken Shirley Bush Phyllis Halfman Patty Fosdick and Mary Falls.
Girl Scout Troop No. 143 announces cookie sales start Friday after school on March 30. Three varieties chocolate mint Savannahs and four flavored cremes offered. Price 50 cents per box, troop earns 2 cents per box. Merit and personal certificates for selling targets. Proceeds fund camp development.
Mrs. R C Rush PTA health chairman says the second series of shots will be Thursday morning April 5 at 9 at the grade school. It includes second shots for diphtheria whooping cough and tetanus and second for diphtheria tetanus plus first polio. Parents should send $1 with each child to cover the shot cost. Tuesday evening dinner guests were Mr and Mrs Ernest Athje Mr and Mrs T S McLane and Mr and Mrs George Kerr of Clinton.
Mrs Fay Ashby pleased Susan Ashby's seven year old party Saturday afternoon with classmates Vicki Hoy Audrey Bissens Nancy Marken Kathy Bellich Barbara McKee Sandra Prins Bonnie Atherton Debra Wiersema Robin Dykstra Valerie Ashby Caroline Martha Linda Ashby Mrs Wayne Ashby and Jeanne Ardella also attended A Teddy Bear cake ice cream and Kolache were served Susan received many gifts Mr and Mrs James Engles Morrison visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Paul Smith.
Charles Remrey, a Savanna hospital patient for a week, was moved Tuesday to a hospital in Iowa City. Mrs. Hazel Stagg, released Tuesday from Mercy hospital after ten days as a medical patient, and Lester Weis, dismissed Tuesday from Mercy after a week, are noted. Thomas Kutses Sr. entered St Francis hospital Freeport Monday evening with pneumonia. Mrs. Wm Hussong was discharged this week from Savanna hospital after a week as a medical patient. Brian Stagg, son of Mr and Mrs Gilpin Stagg, remains at home with pneumonia this week.
Mrs. Johannes K. Medendorp, 81, died at 8 15 AM Sunday at her son Corneil Medendorp s home in rural Thomson. Funeral Tuesday at 2 PM Fay funeral home with Rev Herman Dragt officiating. Burial in Fulton cemetery. Survivors include two sons Cornei and John J with four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was born June 3 1880 in the Netherlands and was a member of Trinity Reformed church.

A new high school group named The Mitchelaries debuted playing swing selections at the FHA Mother Daughter Tea in Thomson gym and at the Band Boosters chili supper in the school cafeteria. The group includes Ronnie Michell as leader on cornet and members Terry Lee Kness Barbara Gruber Larry Carroll Jim Haas Jill Sloan Evelyn Wilt and Kathy Dykstra. They will also perform at the Thomson School Band Spring Concert on April 11. Mr and Mrs Joe Sikkema traveled to Grand Rapids Michigan to visit their daughter and family.
Dixon Illinois hosts a Future Farmers banquet while Ames officials list petitions for school board seats. Grade school terms of Eslinger and Holland expire with Holland seeking reelection. High school board incumbents Huizenga Spencer and Feddersen seek another term. Eight Thomson Vocational Agriculture students attend the event and LeRoy Appel earns top recognition in the DeKalb Corn Achievement Program. The program emphasizes corn production economics and learning by doing.
The Ruth Circle of Thom son Methodist WSCS meets April 4 at 2 p.m. at Vida Rathie’s home with Maude Wagner as co hostess. Dora Smith leads devotions and Clarabel Smith has the program. Roll call with a Job verse. The Kindergarten Club holds its monthly meeting April 2 at Legion Hall. Joyce Cate and Helen Dimmick are on refreshment duties.

Gail Hamilton writes as a mother and citizen explaining her motivation to unite Thomson grade and high schools. She argues for women on the board to provide a mother’s viewpoint, meets teachers and students, and aims to improve rooms and overall school quality in Carroll County Illinois.
The Thomson chapter of the Future Homemakers of America held a Mother Daughter Tea on Friday March 23 in the Thomson school gym. Hostesses Mrs Jack Johnston and winter mothers served cake and punch after a style show featuring aprons skirts and dresses made by members. The Mitchellaries performed and prizes were awarded in games won by Mrs Leslie Durward and Mrs Calvin Eslinger.
Mrs Emil Bellich Mrs Law rence Weatherwax Mrs Harold Witt and Mrs Robert Holland all of Thomson were among fifty six Home Bureau members who traveled by bus to Chicago on Wednesday. They visited McCormick's place and attended the flower show.
Mrs Ernest Rathje attended a church dinner on Monday at the Methodist Church in Sabula Iowa. The event gathered members for a community meal and fellowship.
