Lloyd Godfriaux of the Mid States Telephone Company reports a spring snowstorm damaged lines across Savanna, Thomson, and Mt. Carroll. Wet snow pulled down wires and toppled poles, snapping lines to homes and straining toll circuits. Crews worked through Sunday and by Monday night most repairs were complete except for a few late notices.

Three Crashes Saturday Night Due To Storm
Multiple accidents occurred Saturday night as heavy snow hampered visibility in the Clinton area. Richard Tholen and Donald Legendre, both 18 to 20, escaped with minor injuries after their car hit a southbound freight train near Savanna. the driver blamed poor visibility from the storm. A second collision on Route 64 near Mt. Carroll injured Paul Diffenderfer and Robert Carbaugh, with Luther Jewel as the other driver. they were treated and released. Larry Atherton of Thomson skidded off Route 80 near Thomson, snapping a power pole and cutting power to nearby areas. he was ticketed for excessive speed for conditions.

Tom Watson 54 longtime managing editor and publisher of the Car roll County Mirror Democrat died Wednesday after years of illness. Funeral set for 1 p m Friday at Frank Funeral Home Mt Carroll with Rev James Green officiating. He was born February 10 1908 at Mt Carroll son of Walter R Watson and Lutie Dresbach Watson and attended the University of Illinois. He served 30 years with the Mirror Democrat and 11 years as editor and publisher succeeding Kurt Schmidt. He married Grace Reynolds December 12 1936 and is survived by two sons Tom and Bobby his mother and a brother Jack of Rockford.

Rein Schultz Dahl Inc of Madison Wisconsin submitted the lowest bids on two Illinois state road projects in Carroll County. The 10.46 mile Route 64 resurfacing from Mt Carroll to Brookville carried a bid of 143644, the lowest of four.
