Tom Schaut an 18 year old from Mt Carroll sustained facial lacerations in a Saturday afternoon crash on Route 64 at the Excelsior school corner east of Savanna. The car driven by Pvt Clyde Morgan Jr 19 collided with a Savanna township highway department truck driven by Albert Elliott. Morgan reported loss of steering while Elliott saw the weaving car and swerved onto the shoulder but could not avoid the impact. Schaut remained conscious after the impact and refused hospital treatment. Floyd Leavens and other vehicle occupants escaped injury. The truck front and car rear were damaged.

Champaign high school defeated Centralia high 54 to 48 Saturday night to claim the Illinois state basketball championship. Dundee beat East Rockford 59 to 53 for third place, after Champaign advanced with a 53-37 win over East Rockford and Centralia edged Dundee 45-44 in the semi finals.
Chadwick News notes Lois Adolph returning from a Sarasota five week vacation. Eugene Weber spent the weekend with his parents and is stationed at Great Lakes with possible transfer to Seattle. Don Clarke and family were weekend visitors at the Straubs with plans to stay a week. Herbert Stein family dined with Wilbur Schreiner in Dixon Illinois.
Beginning April 1 1946 dairy producers who marketed milk or butterfat for January 1 to March 31 1946 may receive payments if they submit acceptable evidence to the county AAA office by May 31 1946. Rates mirror the October November December period at 60 cents per hundredweight of milk and 17 cents per pound of butterfat. Chairman J W Erdmier urges prompt submission as mails are not used for applications. Evidence should include buyer name seller name sale time and amount.
Secretary Anderson informs appointment of county emergency food program managers to speed United States aid under the Truman administration. State directors of the Production and Marketing Administration will lead conservation efforts with county committees coordinating locally. Robert C Kreuder, employed on the Ernest Smith farm northeast of Thomson, expects the arrival next week of his English wife Mavis V Trown, formerly of Mansfield England. She is due in New York on the E B Alexander around March 28. Also aboard will be 337 wives and children of American servicemen. Kreuder, son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Kreuder Rt 1 Mr Carroll, served 20 months in England and France as a medical corpsman and was discharged January 14. He met his wife at a cafe in Manchester England and they married March 4 1945 in Mansfield at her parents home.
Miss Lorraine F. Waterman and Walter Krzos wed in a 3 p m ceremony at the Bogue home Savanna with Rev Arthur C Monkman officiating Attendants were Marvin Schumaker and Jeanine Bogue. The bride a Savanna High School graduate and former WAVE 14 months service groom Marine Corps discharge noted.
A large crowd attended the closing out sale at the William H Taylor farm just north of Chadwick. Cows brought very good prices with one Holstein selling for 240 pounds. Hay sold 14 to 15.50 dollars per ton. Cats at 77 cents a bushel and corn at 99.44. A lunchstand operated by the Queen Esther class of Hope Church. Sale advertised in the Review.
Mr. N. V. Lateer Field Supervisor of the Emergency Crop and Feed Loan Office will be at the Production Credit Association Office in Mt. Carroll Illinois from 9 to 11 a m on March 28 1946 to accept loan applications for crop production or livestock feed Farmers needing financing should meet him at that time
The Milwaukee railroad overhead crossing at Savanna is expected open by April 18 after span 5 and 6 completion and concrete decking. Delays from steel shortages pushed work from January, with detours via Chestnut Park and Route 64 causing longer trips and flood challenges from Plum River.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Daehler 58 who died March 1 in St. Francis hospital Freeport were held Saturday afternoon March 16 at First Evangelical Lutheran Chadwick. Dr. Gammon uncle of Mrs. Daehler read scripture and officiated at the marriage in Vandalia Mich. Rev Earl Coble delivered the sermon and burial was in Chadwick cemetery. Pallbearers included Glen Hartman Everett Spanogle William Provant Arnold Provant Ned Geldmacher and Allen Cambman. Mrs Arthur Miller sang My Task and The Lords Prayer. Floral tributes were arranged by Mrs Harry Carbaugh Mrs Harve Zugschwerdt and Mrs L M Strauch.
Monday dinner guests honored Mr H L Spear birthday. visits by Charles Keil and Mrs Arthur Guthrie and daughter for funerals of John Hinkel and Lee Schreiner who then returned to Fairmont Nebraska. Nearby families and birthdays celebrated in Savanna Coleta Chadwick Park Rapids were noted.
Livestock men of Carroll county invite all interested parties to a March 27 meeting at 7 30 p m in Mt Carroll high school gym to organize a Carroll County Livestock Feeders association. S G Jones of Buffalo NY and Elmer Buffington of Milledgeville will aid in organizing.
Edward J. Barrett reports county breakdowns show Carroll County registered 5,949 vehicles in 1945 with total license fees of 72 045 43 dollars. Vehicle types include 5 001 passenger cars 828 trucks and busses 89 trailers and semi trailers 11 motorcycles and 20 dealers. Nearby counties list Whiteside Jo Daviess Ogle Rock Island Stephenson Winnebago totals and fees.
Representatives of five alumni associations and college presidents met March 14 at the Morrison Hotel Chicago to create the Joint Alumni Council of the Illinois State Teachers Colleges. Dr Orville Alexander of Southern Illinois Normal University was named president with William Peters as vice president Annetta Gibson as secretary and Richard V Lindsey Blanche Breed as executive committee members. The officers rotate yearly among the five institutions.
The county treasurer reports sheep killed or injured by dogs cost Carroll County $603.67 in the fiscal year ending March 1. Payments come from dog tax collections.
W. C. Linker left Monday for Texas to conduct meetings for the American Farm Bureau Federation. He aids four southern states Mississippi Texas Arkansas and Kentucky in organizing a life insurance company. Activities include sessions at Amarillo Lubbock and Wichita Falls this week.
