Miss Ruth French daughter of Mi and Miz French stars in the Cornell production of Albert and Sullivan Tolarthe as part of the chorus. The sparkling humorous opera will be staged Wednesday and Thursday nights March 15 and 16. The cast comes from top students in music and dramatic art, with French a sophomore and active in Delphi English club and the Woman's Blukie association.
A joint wedding and birthday celebration Sunday evening honored the 26th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Holy and the birthday of Mrs Russell Marth at Mt Carroll. Dinner at six followed by a social evening. attendees included Miss Erita and her sons, and Drs Amelia Lovely with Mrs Bernadino Tuepfar, plus Mr Ceariall and Mrs and Mrs Theolore Storm of Wacket. Another meeting with Mary Sheenlan and Low Mane Wirther attended the weekly postmaster's gathering at the Hotel Glen in ML Carroll.
On Saturday Mr and Mrs William Homer Sr of Wacker observe the Sisk wedding anniversary first held March 11, 1888. Rev Groom of Lyons Lutheran Church performed the ceremony. The Heinze family ties and descendants across Chadwick Savanna Thomson Mt Carroll mark their enduring legacy.
Birth notices report Maren Dyson a son David Eulipone to Mr. and Mrs. C B Dyson on route 80 north of Whomson. Willard Ballard and Boerason parents of a son born March 6 at Morrison city hospital. A nine pound thirteen ounce baby girl Vernie Lorraine to Mr. and Mrs. R Emmert at Evie, formerly Vernie Martindale.
Fianecke and Switzer announce a complete line of John Deere farm machinery ready for spring. They have worked several days on display and invite the public to view the implements, ranging from tractor and spline implements to summer and fall farm gear. Much of the new machinery is at their store with more stored at the township garage on Esl Rane Street.
Sunday school and worship services announced across multiple churches. Messages include sermons titled Examined for Saint sAeed and For Sinners Only. Invitations extend for hymn sings, question box sessions, Christian Education conference, and Catholic Mass next Sunday at 8 o'clock.
A birthday dinner was hosted at the Prins home on Ideal Sunday to honor Mrs Prins and her mother Mrs Will Hawk Sr for their birthdays. Guests included J. and Mrs Wilbawk Sr, Forrest Eshnge, and Mr and Mrs N Stickell and daughter Marie of Savanna. Joyce Stickell of Savanna attended Monday to mark her birthday anniversary.
Invitations have been received by Savanna residents for a Sunday afternoon reception at the Harvard Methodist Episcopal church pavilion honoring the 25th wedding anniversary of Rev and Mrs Royal J. Synwolts formerly of Savanna. The event begins at 3 o'clock with refreshments. Rev Synwolt was pastor of the Savanna Methodist church for more than four years before moving with his family about a year and a half ago. Rev and Mrs Lynwolt have two daughters Miss June and Betty and one son Royal Jr.
Miss Ruth Lawrence was a guest over the workend at the John Rogers home near Hanover. Other guests included Mrs. George King and son Dale of Chicago, and Mrs. Charles Meskan and son Wayne of East Monline. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carrotl and daughter Barbara visited Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Foltz. Mr. and Mrs. William Holm spent Friday evening at the Verne Kauffman home in Argo-Fa.
Harris Hardware announces a free Tuesday evening movie at the high school gym with three prizes for men and three for women. Charles Hers and Chadwick’s International Saint inplements sponsor the event inviting all residents to attend for an enjoyable community entertainment.
The aunt of Mrs Della Manes, Mrs Helen I Ledgerwood, died last Thursday at Rel Bank following a stroke. She was the youngest sister of Mrs G E Scheerer of Quakertown, mother of Mrs Manes, and had visited in the community. Also noted is Miss Siances Switzer of Fulton, who began her residence in Milwaukee’s Wood Veterans hospital, after civil service appointment and prior three years at the State University hospital in Iowa City.
Fulton defeated Sherrard 27 to 15 in the sectional basketball opener in Moline. The next game featured Moline beating Sterling, with Fulton set to face Moline Friday as Savanna and Alpha plus Mendota and Morrison were on the schedule for the week.
Mr and Mrs Ely Cochran hosted relatives at dinner Sunday to mark their 32nd marriage anniversary dated March 2. Guests included Mrs Mat Nason and Mr and Mrs Haze Nason with daughter, Mrs Dean Boyce and daughter from Clinton, Robin Stage of Rock Island, Mrs Cecil George and daughter from Madison, and Mr and Mrs Frankin Tate of Sterling.
Fire at the home of Mrs Anna George in Chadwick caused damage to the kitchen area. The blaze appears to have originated from a chimney and was estimated as covered by insurance. no exact damage value was released.
State highway maintenance crews drive piling east of route 78 Chadwick road junction to straighten the small creek channel. Crews aim to prevent gravel road washouts and erosion since route TB construction altered flow, with a large tree deflecting current and prompting channel realignment efforts.
Jacob Zeerup longtime Fulton resident died Sunday morning after long illness at his home. Funeral services were held at 2 pm at the First Reformed Church in Fulton with Rev W H Vindermeer officiating. Burial followed in Fulton cemetery. Zeerup, born in Api Wis in the Netherlands, came with parents to Fulton 55 years ago and married twice, first to Gertie Mush who died years ago, then to Sara Zielstra who died in 1938. Surviving are two children from the first marriage, six from the second, twenty grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother and sister, and several other relatives.
Mr and Mrs Paul Lewis were business visitors in Davenport Tuesday. Miss Grace Ashpole of Savanna Harold Sorenson of Chinton John Ashpole and son Donald visited last Thursday with Mrs Ashpole at the sanitorium in Ottawa. Mrs Ashpole is a little improved. Harts Hardware store is presenting a free moving picture at the Chadwick EH.S. com Tuesday night March 14 starting at 7:30. A cordial invitation is extended to everyone in the community to attend.
Thomson welcomes Enuto Matmia of Polo as new proprietor of the Stickell bakery formerly operated by JY Stickell Mi. Marcace takes over Tuesday and moves family here. He has restaurant experience in Clinton Polo Morusen and other places. He will serve lunches sandwiches homemade candy ice cream tobacco beer and sodas. The Stickells planned to keep the business here and lease the Emma Woland farm may move to Thom son if a suitable home is found.
Miss Anna Dykstra and Genevieve Balk of Fulton visited Miss Dykstra's parents, Mr and Mrs Ben Dykstra. Harold Witt and his wife joined Sunday guests, along with Mr and Mrs Will Goswold and Mr and Mrs Charles Groharing. The Groharing dinner included son Paul, daughter June, and brother in law Mr Glen Greharing in Morrison. Prudence Greharing spent the weekend near Chicago with Dr and Mrs Brookstra. Willaul Hartman and family were dinner guests of his parents, while Lewis Combs hosted guests from Argohat. Mr and Mrs Fox and daughters from Dixon visited George St Ores and Dan Sack in Chadwick.
Diughe Brown, manager of the total pool hall, will close his business here on March 25 and reopen in Fulton in the building next to the Fulton fakery. Johnny has led the pool hall for years. Herbert Rawlins Jr, a Teachers College student in Macomb, plans to spend the weekend with his parents. The bond of trustees met in regular session with all members present. February 6 minutes approved. Several bills approved and referred to the finance committee. Village funds show no balance. motor fuel tax fund at $800.00. $116.71 previously expended on Main Street maintenance to be reimbursed from MF T funds. No formal action after discussion. board adjourned.
The Argo 500 club hosted last Thursday with Mrs B R Lewis winning first prize, Verne Kaufman second, and Mayme Mommett third. The Thomson Woman's Club met with Miss Thelma Schick as hostess and discussed infant health topics. Thomson 500 hosted by Mrs John Carpenter continues today, with plans for the Methodist society meeting next week.
Mr Norman Stukell and daughter Nave of Savanna were guests of Mc and Mrs Justice Pans at Ideal. Mr Ed Sack and family hosted Harry Watt and wife for supper east of Chadwick. Chadwick HS gym hosts a tree moving picture Tuesday night March 14 at 7:30. Fulton Opens and family ties noted with Gui vet ’s thousand family at Tousluy farm. Chester Faulkner employed locally.
The state highway department has opened bids for grading and graveling about four and a quarter miles of a route east of Milledgeville and west from Po'o. Low bid of just under 5101,000 was from Fransen Construction Durant of Chicago. Campbell, county superintendent, said no notice means contract not yet awarded.土地owners in Carroll and Ogle counties oppose the route, fearing devaluation of farms.
Three village trustees and three library trustees are to be elected at the annual village election on April 18. Village terms expiring are Hobart Holland Paul Lewis and Arthur Pape, with Pape not seeking re election while Holland and Lewis run again. Lyle Williams seeks Pape's place. Library board terms up for re election include Mrs C K Switzer and Mrs Henry Strauch, with Mrs Enot Brach on the ticket to fill the vacancy from Maude Seats' death.
Sherman Carter husband of Minnie Willants of Albany died last week in St Franci hospital Freeport from a ruptured appendix. Carter was known in several states for Polled Hereford cattle and ran a stock farm and business. He was a director of Blackhawk Production Credit association and member of the Church of the Brethren Lanark. Funeral at 2 PM Friday from Lanark church with Rev J D Leatherman officiating. He leaves a widow and several relatives.
Met and Mrs Floyd Hyde and Donna Jean of Seaton spent the weekend with Mrs Hyde's parents Mr and Mrs Henry St. Qres T her daughter Joyce returned home with them. Mrs Allen Fulrath Clinton spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs M Beck. Mrs Mary Frazier visited friends here for several days and returned to Savanna Tuesday evening. Mrs Tillie Harney visited Friday with her brother in law and sister near Milledgeville and returned home Saturday. Glen Wilt of Detroit was here over Saturday and Sunday to visit his mother, Mrs Clint Wilt, a patient in Deaconess hospital in Freeport, and also his father and brother Paul. Mr and Mrs Conrad Lillie and daughter Jean of Lockport arrived Sunday for a few days visit with her parents Mr and Mrs Frank Smith and other relatives. They visited a few days with his father Rev A C Lie and family in Edinburg and with his brother and sister in Decatur. Mr Lillie is having a sabbatical from his duties as guard at the state penitentiary in Joliet. Mrs Donald Smyth and son Juan visited several days last week with Mr and Mrs Five Noudhwanger near Mr Carrall. Mr and Mrs Rober Groharing were business visitors in Freeport Monday. Paul Lewis received a number of new Chevrolets this week.
