Town residents report heavy snow and record lows at the start of March with plowing and driveway clearings underway. Local council discusses sewer project and a street light near the school while officials consider a Unit district for the Thomson schools. Community updates cover sports, kindergarten tickets, business, and upcoming Little League and York 4-H projects.
Mr and Mrs Ivan Morse and Miss Edna Brown visited Tuesday evening with Mr and Mrs Eldon Hickey and family. Mr and Mrs Charles Burkholder and family of Lanark were Saturday supper guests with Mr and Mrs Eugene Halfman and family. Mr and Mrs Albert Prins were recent callers of Mr and Mrs Peter Dyke of Morrison. Mrs John Kramer, Mrs Donald Kramer and Deanne went to Sterling on Monday and stayed in the Jay Buikema home, while Mr and Mrs Buikema took their son Mark to Rockford Memorial hospital.
Miss Aurora Neres a Philippines exchange student at Fulton High School spoke to Thom son Woman's Club in the school cafeteria. She described Philippine life education and school hours and discussed plans to join the foreign service. The meeting featured a dance demonstration, a blood typing drive, a Vogue sewing contest update, and a guest speaker from Port Byron.
News reached Thomson on Tuesday of the sudden death of Myron Gotham of Madison Wisconsin a cousin of Harold Elliott. Gotham died after being crushed between two railroad cars at work in Madison. Mr and Mrs Elliott learned of the tragedy while in Springfield and left Wednesday to attend the funeral arrangements.

Sermon “The Ladder of Understanding.” Spotlight club March 12 at 7:30 PM. Baptist rally at Marengo church Sunday 3 PM. Mrs. Hattie Greeley quietly marked her 90th birthday on Tuesday March 6 at the home of her son in law and daughter Wayne Ashby Sr and wife. Guests included Mr and Mrs Garrett Steven berg Morrison and Fay Ashby and daughters Linda and Martha. Linda and Martha shared dinner at the Ashby home while Mrs Paul V Wilt and Beck visited in the afternoon. Several birthday cakes were sent by friends and she enjoyed them greatly.
Saturday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Sloan and family were Mrs. L. E. Kindle, Mrs. Carmal Hey and son Der and Marty Hey, all of Sterling.
Mr and Mrs William Hamm were supper guests Sunday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs P K McGinnis and family to honor their grandson Junior McGinnis who was 17 The Stiles family joined in the visit and ice cream was served
Mrs. Lowell Starr and son Daniel plan to leave this week to join her husband in Key West Florida. Sunday dinners and suppers featured guests including Rudy Brock, William Bimm and families from Savannah Clinton Clinton Iowa and others. The Shelly family moved to 314 Bowen St Savannah. Wayne Drake and Franklin Fehler hosted guests. Kraber Jr and Kimberly Kraber of Dixon visited the Senneffs. Jeannine Senneff of Clinton visited Sunday. Paul Pratt of Beloit visited Eldon Hickey and family. I R Senneff and Rosemary toured Chillicothe Illinois on Monday.

The Thomson village board met in regular session with all members present and voted to pay the regular bills. A motion to place a mercury light across from the school gymnasium passed 4-2. York Cedar 4-H members and Burnie Voss sought village permission to create a park near the Paul Pratt farm as a club project, though outside town limits and referred to State Highway. Officials discussed a proposed sewer system. 57 Thomson homes with private water would be forced to connect, totaling about 200 connections, lowering per user cost from 87 to roughly 60 dollars.

Mr and Mrs Wesley Sack were Wednesday afternoon visitors with her brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Ben Stage.
Lynn Bower of Thomson is named winner of the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award for outstanding agriculture seniors. He excelled in scholarship, leadership, and farm program activities while in York Community High School. Bower serves as FFA reporter, senior class president, freshman class secretary, science club member, librarian, band member, and active in plays and Annual Staff. His farming program includes Angus cattle, Hampshire hogs, dairy, poultry, and corn.
Children from Savanna showcased handicrafts and collections at Kellys Toyland from February 26 to March 3, with Miss Joan Darrow winning the girls’ display and Joel Hers ey winning the boys’ prior week. About 250 participants from the area contributed, as James O. Kelly hosted the exposition with Virginia Schindel as manager and Ella Ireland as assistant manager.
The Thomson Music Boosters sponsor a chili supper Saturday March 24 in the school cafeteria. Serving 5 to 7 30 p m. with adult and student tickets 75c and 35c for younger children. Volunteers listed for dining room kitchen and ticket duties. Families with band students asked to contribute pies.
Peggy St. Ores, soon to wed James Bissens, was celebrated at a York Baptist church shower with twenty guests from Orison Fulton and Clinton. Guests played bridal games and unwrapped gifts from a blue and white table, with refreshments by hostesses Mrs Harold Witt and Mrs Robert Holland. Earlier Kathy Dykstra hosted a second shower at her parents home with sixteen attendees including family and classmates.

Mrs Terry Elliott was guest of honor at a bridal shower on Sunday afternoon in Cherry Valley Illinois. Relatives from Rockford attended as Mrs James Hill and Mrs Ralph Atkins hosted at the Atkins home. Cake coffee punch cookies sandwiches mints and nuts were served. The bride received many lovely gifts.
Carl Korbar’s birthday was celebrated last Thursday evening with visits from Mr and Mrs Dick Boyer of Clinton and Mr and Mrs Herman Hagg. Guests enjoyed cards and were served refreshments by Mrs Korbar.
Mr and Mrs Harvey Marshall were Friday visitors with Mr and Mrs Wayne Ash. Mrs Leo Hengtgen and children of Elgin were Saturday callers in the John Sloan home. Alvin Olson of Freeport visited Iva Devine in Savanna and Dr and Mrs E H Gholson. Howard Wiebenga of Fulton called on Mrs Wiebenga. Singer and family were guests with Henry Van Zuiden at Morrison. John Engelkens and family visited the Hook family. G A Smith returned home after months with relatives in the East. Richard Miller and son Steven were Sunday supper guests of Eugene Halfman family. Singer and family visited Monday with Ralph Holesinger. David Murray of Sterling visited Eugene Murray.
William H Robertson aged 90 of Argo Fay died at Shannon nursing home after a nine day stay. Funeral services were held at 1 PM in Frank funeral home Mt Carroll with Rev William Kendall officiating and burial in Lower York cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Del Curley Milford Miller Donald Robertson Raymond Knutsen Robert Houzenga and Milton Miller. Surviving are four daughters two sons 25 grandchildren 38 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
The 500 Card club met on Thursday March 1 with Mrs Ivan Morse. Prizes went to Mrs Amy Lewis Mrs Minnie Ashpole Miss Mae Kustes and Bernadette Kustes. Next meeting March 15 with Mrs Gertrude Kustes. Spotlight Club York Community church meets March 12 at 7 30 PM at the home of Mr and Mrs Albert Lynch. Lions Club holds regular monthly business meeting Monday March 12. American Legion meets Monday March 13 at 7 30 PM at the Legion hall. Thomson PTA meets tonight Thursday at 7 30 PM in the school cafeteria.
The plan lists daily meals for a school week. Monday features chili crackers cheese bread and butter cookies and milk. Tuesday offers barbecued pork slices mashed potatoes green beans bread and butter fruit and milk. Wednesday shows fish sticks and Friday menu entries including fish sticks and potatoes with sides.

Billy Ashby of Marion Iowa visits grandparents Wayne and Mrs Ashby this week. On Monday the Ashbys and Billy depart for Los Angeles California to begin a new home there following Wayne Ashby Jr.'s transfer with Northrup Seed.
Perry Melton proclaims March 11 to 17, 1962 as Girl Scout Week and March 12 as the Golden Anniversary of Girl Scouting in the United States. He urges citizens to support the organization as it enters its second half century.
The school began its immunization program this morning at Thomson grade school. Forms were sent to parents detailing shot types and dates. Next clinics are scheduled for April 5 and May 3.
The Hickeys moved last Thursday to the Paul Pratt farm formerly occupied by the Paxtons. The Paxtons moved to the Stransky farm south of Savanna, previously tenanted by Roy Haring. Also mentioned are visits by the Regan family from Savanna, the Bush family from Morrison, Joe Frosch of Selfridge AFB visiting with the Meakins, and Wiebernga from Fulton visiting the Dykema family.
Mr. and Mrs. David Young and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bissen attended the funeral of their aunt Mrs. Walter Lewis of Galena last Friday afternoon.
Glendora Schade and Mrs Hazel Stagg were dinner guests Sunday with Dr and Mrs R C King in Clinton Iowa.
John Feldt of Fulton is a patient at Jane Lamb hospital Clinton. Carl Anderson was a medical patient in Savanna hospital several days this week. Mrs Dan Sack of Clinton dismissed from Mercy hospital Clinton but remains ill at her Fulton home. Mary Lee Johnson, daughter of Virl Johnson, is a medical patient at Mercy Clinton. Mrs Eugene Murray fell on ice breaking her left wrist and stayed overnight at Jane Lamb. Albert Lynch dismissed from Jane Lamb surgical unit after two weeks. Mark Burkema, 3, Sterling, treated last week at Sterling Community hospital then moved to Rockford Memorial Hospital. grandson of John Kramer and Thomson residents. Mrs Ben Dimmick confined at home under physician care. Ronald Rutherford, son of Ellen O’Brian, broke his collarbone during Clinton High School practice.
