Babson Park Massachusetts March 1 real estate outlook notes momentum in a few sections while cautioning buyers to pick growing well located cities. It highlights front foot and per acre pricing and expects no general decline soon with regional variations and a building boom tied to peacetime demand.
Administrator reports settlements paid to the U S Treasury over ceiling price violations in used car sales. Names include Harold F Dreier Savanna J M Holland Morrison R V Rollo Prophetstown Henry Pritchard Jr Geneseo Clair Simpson Rock Falls and Keil family of Fairmont Neb visited by death of John Hinkel with plans to remain several days.
Dr. F. E. Turner, Carroll County March of Dimes chairman, requests final contributions to care for polio victims. He notes over 500 Rockford area cases in 1945, 11 county victims, and $4000 spent with $500 more needed before discharge. He praises local theatre drives but cites lower donor response than expected.
Carroll county AAA will mail Farm NCR-46-17 notices to signed Farm Plans. The notice lists approved practices and payment potential, notes possible adjustments during plan review, and advises farmers to keep the form for future reference.
Mary Elizabeth Smith Wilson born October 20 1861 in Lanark Illinois died February 22 1946 at her daughter’s home in McCool Junction Nebraska at age 84. She married Francis Wilson December 13 1887 at Mt Carroll Illinois and had three daughters. She lived in Iowa Falls and McCool Junction then Chadwick Illinois before her passing. She was a charter member of The First Evangelical Lutheran Church at McCool Junction and is survived by one daughter one son-in-law two grandchildren one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews including the Smith Vennum Diehl and Tharpe families.

March term jurors told to report April 1. divorce hearing set for Gertrude Garcia vs John Garcia. Numerous real estate transfers and divorces recorded in Savanna, Lanark, and Mt. Carroll as Judge Zick and Judge Dixon preside.
Carroll County grand jury returns five true bills. Charges include Sa vanna tavern operators permitting illegal gaming devices, a Chestnut Park Sea Food Inn proprietor, a Mt. Carroll man passing bad checks, a motor vehicle operation while intoxicated, and one name withheld.
Miss Loretta Mae Hartman daughter of Mr and Mrs Irvin Hartman Shannon and Marvin Wayne Timmer son of Mr and Mrs Russell Timmer Lanark united in marriage at two o clock Sunday afternoon March 3 in a double ring service. Reverend Paul Church officiated. The bride wore white silk marquisette over satin with fingertip veil and seed pearl tiara. She carried pink roses and white sweet peas. Bridesmaids included Betty Rovermel Jeanne Fischer Barbara Erdmeier and Mrs Harleth Cook. Best man was James Carroll. ushers were Robert Henze Marvin Miller and Robert Rahn. Mrs Kenneth Alexander sang I Love You Truly with organ accompaniment. The couple plans to live on a farm near Lanark after a wedding trip to Chicago.
Shannon war veteran Jack Beck, 24, may lose his left eye after a piece of steel struck him while changing a tractor tire at Byers Implement store in Shannon. Attendants at a Freeport hospital reported the injury last week. Beck is the nephew of store operator Walter Byers.
Mrs Edna Arnold Fritz 61 died at her Mt. Carroll home Tuesday. Funeral Friday at Mt. Carroll Methodist Church with burial at Oak Hill cemetery. Survived by husband Roy Fritz three daughters and a sister. Roy Michal 59 Lanark farmer dies after major surgery in Freeport. Funeral Thursday at First Brethren Church Lanark, burial in Lanark cemetery. Survived by wife a daughter a son and a brother.
Mary Brock 70 retired nurse and Lanark resident died Friday night after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 50 p m in the Methodist church with Rev Donald Olson officiating. Burial followed in Lanark cemetery. Survived by sisters Miss Martha and Miss Sadie Brook, who lived with her, a brother Leslie of Columbus and a half sister Mrs Ernest Walter of Lanark.
James Luther Sites died at 11 p m Friday at the Savanna home of his daughter Mrs Charles Swingley where he had lived eight years. Funeral 2 p m Monday at Fuller funeral home with Rev C E Olney officiating and burial in Savanna cemetery. Born April 17 1856 in Greensburg Pa, son of Henry and Mrs Sites. He married 1885 to Della Tenley who died in 1994. Surviving are two daughters Mrs Swingley and Mrs Lola Welch of South Wayne Wis.
Milford Ludwig a 10 year old Shan non schoolboy died at 9 45 p m Thursday in a Freeport hospital from a skull fracture and a broken leg suffered Feb 27 when he darted into a car on Route 72 two miles east of Shannon. Janes Reardon of Freeport a state license inspector drove the car. He said the boy stepped from the north into the eastbound car’s path after leaving Evergreen school to visit neighbors until his parents returned.
Mrs. Paul Lewis and her mother Mrs. Olive E. Smith were business callers in Savanna Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hellman and Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Marshall spent Monday in Sterling. Earl Holman Jr and Mrs. Le Roy Arno and son Dickie of Savanna visited their folks Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Switzer and sons of Thomson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Whitney Sunday.
The state public health district office moves from Dixon to Savanna, occupying the Utilities building second floor. District three covers Carroll, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Ogle and Whiteside counties with Dr. C. E. Kline in Carroll, Jo Daviess and Whiteside and Dr. Ruth E. Dunham in Stephenson and Ogle. Lee Schreiner a 44 year old Lanark man was killed instantly when his car skidded on ice and struck the Milwaukee railroad overpass on Route 64. Coroner’s inquest ruled accidental death. He planned to move to Mt Carroll with his family and was on his way to Blendon Law turkey farm near Mt Carroll. Surviving are his wife a son and two sisters.
Morrison high school’s fast basketball quint, favored in the Mt Carroll regional, defeated Mt Carroll 41 to 35 to claim the title. Dykhuizen led Morrison with seven baskets and three free throws as Morrison advances to face Fast Moline in the sectional opening at Moline on Thursday.
Everett Rick and Robert Hopkins longtime World War II veterans acquire C. G. Knese trucking operation in Chadwick. They also purchase the residence, plan headquarters there, and will continue local and long distance hauling while the Knese family stays on briefly. Rick served in Europe, Hopkins in China Burma India theater. both recently discharged.
A February Carroll county highway death raised the year toll to three by March 1. White side county had none. Ogle county led the area with five deaths through February, two in February. Stephenson reported one last month, Lee county two, Jo Daviess one.
Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Badtke included sister and husband Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Neilson and Albert Bier of Low Moor. Saturday evening visitors at Robert Carrolls were Warren Nice and family of Morrison Elmer Henrikson and son of DeWitt and Fred Hook and family. Edwin Bush and son of Morrison were Sunday dinner guests of Bernie Dykstra.
The Republican slate led by Richard Yates Rowe for State Treasurer Vernon L Nickell for Superintendent of Schools and William G Stratton for Congressman at Large will visit key voting centers March 12 to 14 The schedule includes Freeport March 12 Dixon March 13 and Rock Island March 14 The events are organized by county party chairs Stratton is represented by George H Perrine and William Downey.
Carroll County Rural Youth met Feb 20 in the farm bureau hall Mt Carroll for a recreational training program planned by Mrs Sunny Benson University of Illinois. The next meeting is Mar 11 at the farm bureau hall with stunt night and chili for losers. A banquet and dancing at Polo is planned for Saturday evening Mar 2.
Civil Aeronautics Board examiners back a proposed Mid-Continent Air route with co terminal Chicago Milwaukee and Sioux City via Rockford Freeport Sterling Clinton Dubuque the Tri Cities Muscatine Cedar Rapids Waterloo Marshalltown Oskaloosa Des Moines Boone and Fort Dodge. Clinton Iowa Sterling and Freeport Ill are named stopping points awaiting board approval.
