Babson's Weekly Report on Universal Military Training
Babson argues the UMT debate hinges on peace versus preparedness. He notes Truman and some generals support training, while Taft and Wallace oppose as undemocratic. He cites costs of 17.5 billion dollars yearly and the potential to field 7.5 million mobilizable troops within a year, ending with a call to act at home and in civic life.
