The Mt Carroll regional tournament will run five nights starting March 1 with first round games Morrison versus East Dubuque and Savanna versus Hanover. Eugene W. Strawn of Freeport, an optometrist with offices in Freeport, has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve by Secretary Kenneth C. Royall and confirmed by Maj. Gen. Edward F. Trucker Hurt When Truck Overturned East of Savanna
Savanna Illinois route 64 incident left Savanna Harry Williams 29 of Mt. Carroll with facial and body injuries after his truck veered off the road struck a telephone pole and fences. He was freed from the cab by motorists and taken to Savanna City Hospital where his condition was listed as not serious. Williams operates a rendering works truck.

Illinois state gasoline tax allotments to Carroll County and the village of Savanna totaled 58 514 in 1947, up from 56 099 in 1946, as Paretes Kindred & Company notes. Youth Dies in Crash Near Savanna on Route 80
Savanna 20 year old Noron Wayne Alexander, son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Alexander, died in a Sunday auto accident on Route 80 near the former NYA camp north of Savanna. A passenger, Edward Hiher, 20, survived. An inquest ruled accidental death from a broken neck and chest injuries after the car rolled several times and pinned Alexander.

E. R. Mest and Clifford Shibley Jr were injured Monday near the Clayton Kaul farm on Route 88 north of Chadwick when Mest s pickup collided with a milk truck owned by Henry Volz and a passing car occupied by Mr and Mrs Davis. Mest sustained severe bruises and temporary unconsciousness while Shibley suffered a fractured collarbone and head lacerations. other occupants escaped injury. Officer Steph ee Adee investigated.
