Boating safety through caution in unexpected currents
Two Champaign high school students learned the hard way that the unexpected causes boating accidents. A canoeing outing in Urbana's swollen yard creek led to a capsize near a bridge, with one boy unable to swim. Illinois sportsmen urge boaters to anticipate hazards, follow nautical rules, and use common sense to prevent tragedies. Sharon Livengood Hilda Knoess and Margrete Doden head to Platteville for eight weeks of summer school, with local visits noted alongside.
