Vacation Bible school will close Friday afternoon at the Methodist church. Parents and friends are invited to attend a 1:00 PM informal program during the opening service. Afterward visitors may tour classrooms and observe daily routines and handwork. dismissal is at 4:00 PM with take home items.
On Saturday June 10 a Baptist youth group toured Chicago visiting the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary Lincoln Park and Madison Avenue sites. They saw Moody Memorial Church Fourth Presbyterian and a Roman Catholic church then heard the Unshackled program at Civic Opera House and toured Pacific Garden Mission. The group included Larry Carroll Ruth Hoff Peggy Stores Arleta Wilt Evelyn Wilt Delores Wilt Wayne Witt Rev Goldberg and Mr Arnold. They thanked Rev Goldberg for the educational tour and expressed enjoyment despite fatigue on return.
The Thomson Review received a change of address notice from Mr. and Mrs. David Pease. Until August 1 the address is David Pease Southside Trailer Park Route 4 Columbia Missouri. After August 1 the new address is David Pease Pease Resort Star Route Solon Springs Wisconsin.
We thank everyone for the cards gifts and calls during our silver anniversary celebration. Special thanks to our sister and brother in law who attended and planned the celebration. This courtesies helped make it a memorable occasion for us. Mr and Mrs Lyle Williams.
Gordon L. Hansen County Superintendent spoke at the new high school gym about Illinois criteria for unit school districts and the potential impact on taxes. An advisory committee was proposed with Gene Marken as temporary chairman, and a meeting set for Wednesday June 28 at 8 pm to gather public views.
Mrs Albert Prins entertained at a bridal shower for Miss Betty Feldt Tuesday evening with 17 ladies attending. Games were played, prizes awarded, and a group gift given to the honoree. A lunch followed including buns, date bread, pineapple delight, coffee and punch. co-hostess was Mrs Jan Faber of Fulton.
The Pony League will play Camanche here next Monday night at 6 00 p m.
Mr and Mrs Walter Behrendt announce the wedding of their daughter Nancy of Mt Morris to Donald Smire of Leaf River next Saturday afternoon at Mt Morris The Behrendt family resided in Mt Morris and Mr Behrendt is a general contractor Their telephone number is 3572.
Saturday guests included Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gingrich Mrs. Anna Hop and Allen Benson of Waterloo and Coggan Iowa with Willie Leopold home. Sunday calls came from Mrs. Harry Kratzer Freeport and Mrs. Lambert Clinton. Mrs. Goldie Bullock Oakton California visited A W Pape midweek. Families from Sylvester McWorthy Rock Falls Wacker Davenport Clinton and Clinton area spent weekends with various hosts and relatives.
William Kendall serves as pastor and Claude Grim as superintendent. Sunday features church school at 9 30 a m worship at 10 30 a m and a young people organization at 7 p m. The Children's Day program will be presented during Sunday School hour.

A French fryer overheated Sunday at the Dick McGinty residence igniting a small fire. Yvonne and a daughter quickly subdued the blaze. Curtains and kitchen floor sustained damage while the fries were reportedly well browned.
James Bissens was a Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert St. Ores and Peggy. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Strukhoff and children of Fulton were Monday evening callers of Maurice Strukhoff.
Thomson announces Roy and Mrs. Heitman returned from Ada Minnesota with niece Rita Geddes for summer. Sunday guests included T J Turner of Hanover Illinois. Dykema family visited Jennie Griswold Tuesday evening. Fellows of Morrison shared Sunday dinner with Paul Smith Argo Fay. Gerald Smith and Kristy spent weekend with Elmer Holm Clinton. Carl Petersen attended Schroeder reunion at De Witt Park. Sam Bush Fulton visited Dora Wiebenga Thursday evening.
The Lena nursing home reports Fred Miller remains about the same. Leslie Hoover son of Ellsworth and Mrs. Hoover of Elma Iowa underwent an appendectomy last Saturday. Amy Lewis continues as a medical patient in Jane Lamb hospital Room 426. Joe Root a parent in Hines hospital is improving nicely. Gene Bull in Savanna hospital is slowly improving.
Miss Sherrie J. Lewis of Thomson became the bride of Donald Dell of Pittsfield in a noon Sunday double ring ceremony at the Methodist church in Normal Illinois. Rev. White officiated. The couple plans a honeymoon in St. Louis and will attend summer school in Normal after their return.
Airman 3rd Class Lewis B. Frosch son of Cecil W Frosch Thomson Ill completed an eight week construction drafting course at the Engineer School Fort Belvoir Va on May 26 The 21 year old airman entered the Air Force in January He is a 1957 York Community High School graduate and attended the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana
Mrs Harry Diehl reports a letter from Canada and Harry Haag and Herman Haag enjoying good weather and fishing. They are catching their limit every day.
The marriage of Miss Betty Feldt to Edwin Paul Balk will take place at 8 o'clock Friday evening June 16 in the Second Reformed Church Fulton.
The Rock River Annual Conference of the Methodist Church will hold its 122nd meeting from June 19 to 23 at Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston Illinois. Bishop Charles Wesley Bra shares was to preside but a light heart attack prevents him. Bishop Marshal Reed will preside in his absence. Delegates Esther Schmaling and Mrs. Eugene Murray attend from Thom son Argo Fay Hickory Grove charge. The Rock River Conference covers the northern third of Illinois including Chicago.
LeRoy Appel, president of the Thomson FFA Chapter, won election as Section TI sentinel at the sectional meeting during the state convention. Section II includes 19 schools in Carroll Whiteside and Lee counties. LeRoy is the son of Mr and Mrs Harry Appel of Thomson and will be a junior at York High School.
Roger Miller of Princeton was a Saturday caller in the Mervin Marshall residence. Alma and Helen Mertz visited Mrs. Fred Miller in Lanark last Friday. Mrs. Anna Petersen spent Tuesday with her niece Mrs. Helen Marske in Clinton Iowa. The afternoon was spent playing 500.
York Community Church hosts a Children’s Day program on June 18 at 9 30 am with activities including a children cake making exercise and songs. Speakers include Cindy Brock Clarence Bruckner and Kara Lou Grim. Attendees feature Debbie Brunner Christine Cate Melodie Creighton Nancy Bruckner and others.
Marcia Melton writes of a cross country trek toward Alaska with stops in Minnesota North Dakota and Alberta detailing scenery wildlife and a bear encounter. The issue also lists a 25th anniversary reception for Mr and Mrs Lyle Williams with about 80 guests and contributions from many locals.
Mrs. Eleanor Plumley hosted the fourth birthday for her daughter Louise. Guests included Donnie, Craig and Sarah Robinson, Gail Nancy and Barbara Marken, Jenny Rebecca and Kerry Wilt, Shawn McGinty of Thomson, and Nancy Paarman from DeWitt Iowa. Pink elephant cake and ice cream followed the gifts.
Mr and Mrs Gerald Brown and daughter of Roswell New Mexico arrived Sunday for a three week vacation with Mr and Mrs Herman Timmons and relatives. Stewart Peck son of Mr and Mrs Elliott Peck Davenport Iowa and grandson of Mr and Mrs B L Peck Mt Carroll has been employed by the federal government as a park naturalist at Bequoia National Park California for the summer months.
Mr. and Mrs. William Boyd Smith of Hialeah Florida announce the engagement of their daughter Sylvia to John Richard Grimm son of Mrs Ferdinand A Grimm of Arvada Colorado and the late Mr Grimm. Sylvia is a Miami Senior High School graduate and U S Immigration Department employee. John is a Clinton High School and Clinton Jr College and St Ambrose College alumnus and was honorably discharged from the U S Air Force May 28 1961 at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base South Carolina. An wedding is planned for July 1 at Palm Beach Baptist Church in Hialeah.
Visitors over the past week included the Sumner Darrow and Lynch families of Savanna and Rockford, plus Strauch Goldberg Griswold and Sippel households. CWO and Mrs Mat tie and family joined on Wednesday with Cordova kin. Aunts and cousins visited Morrison and Davenport connections noted. Louise Setterberg funeral held in Princeton. Richard Sack attends General Motors body school in Hinsdale for six weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Merle Prins announce the birth of a daughter on Tuesday June 13 at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton Iowa. The baby weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Rev. and Mrs Albert Shne and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs Albert Prins.

The 500 Card Club met last Thursday with Mrs. Hazel Morse. Prizes were won by Mrs. Marian Bristol, Mrs. Bernadette Kustes, Mrs. Minnie Ashpole and Miss Mae Kustes. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Bernadette Kustes.
Girl Scouts enjoyed an overnight camping trip at the Far Horizon Camp in Hanover. Leaders Mrs Barbara Cook and Mrs Ruby Hill supervised attendees Barbara Atherton Charlotte Cate Charlene Cate Marsha Cook Cheryl Shearer Nancy Haas Kathy Sippel Lou Ann Frosch Juanita Engelkens and Susan Knuth.

The Spring Valley school under R R J Fulton completed its last year of service. A reunion for former teachers and pupils is set for Friday June 23 at 3 00 p m with a picnic supper at 6 30. Each family brings a picnic basket and their own table service. Coffee and drinks provided. A short program follows.
Three members of the Thom son Future Farmers of America represented their chapter at the thirty third annual state FFA convention held in Springfield June 6 8. Lynn Bower LeRoy Appel the official delegates and David Johnson attended the three day convention. They were accompanied by William Gengenbach vocational agriculture instructor. The group toured Lincoln's tomb and the State Capitol.
Walter Holland and David Lynch lead lightweight division with Holland taking first. Jim Eissens wins middleweight with Jan Jurgens second and Arlyn Huizenga third. LeRoy Appel wins heavyweight with Larry Hook second and Jan Jurgens third. Prizes range from five to one and a half dollars. Appreciation extended to Paul Johnson for land use and all attendees.
A large Thomson Stevenson family reunion is planned at the Cordova home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Sheridan next Sunday. In Fulton, Claude Wiebenga and Danny Wiebenga visited Mrs. Dora Wiebenga on Saturday. Donald Fitzpatrick and Merle Kohns families joined J and Mrs. William Hamm for Sunday afternoon. The Leota club from Fulton held a potluck at Hermon Timmons's home with twelve ladies and three men attending.
