Babson Park Massachusetts June 11. He argues the middleman weathering inflation and warns that debt and war may threaten real wealth. He urges investors to study land and securities, stressing personal inspection, location, soil, and long term work before investing.
Republican and Democratic judges and clerks were named for the 20 precincts in Carroll County for the 1944 spring primary and potential later elections. The board approved the party lists after caucuses, with new appointments to be made before the November presidential election and for any future special elections.
Nine members of the Heinze family were affected after a Sunday reunion at Old Mill park Savanna reportedly from eating chicken salad sandwiches. Four remained in Savanna city hospital Monday including Mrs Edward Heinze and Irene plus Mrs Adam Heinze and Arthur Heinze from Sterling and Rock Falls.

Temperatures reached 93 degrees Sunday and Monday in the area, the highest mark this year, with continued warmth forecast. Although some lamented the heat, many welcomed the lift from cooler spring air as scattered showers offered little relief. Farmers cheered as corn grew rapidly in the hot spell.
Grain firm leaders blame truck drivers roaming the corn belt for a looming shortage in marketing terminals. They warn a shutdown of the corn refining industry could occur within 30 days.
Richard Allison of Milledgeville won the grand champion lamb in the market class while Richard Zuck of Lanark won the grand champion lamb in the breeding class at the sixth annual Carroll County 4H and FFA sheep show in Savanna. Fifty-eight sheep competed, with judges J. H. Stimson and Noles Zugschwerdt announcing class winners across Fat Lamb Ewe Lamb and Ram Lamb divisions.
The Salvation Army drive in Illinois seeks at least 2000 dollars to support recreation and meals for service members. Carroll county chair is Judge O. M. Grove with J. Logan Machen aiding. county supervisors will lead township campaigns.
The Illinois Merit Council announces open competitive merit examinations to establish eligible lists for visitor positions in county departments of public welfare in Illinois. Applications must be received at the Merit Council office in the Illinois Building, Springfield, or postmarked by July 1, 194%. Forms available at the office, from county welfare departments, or U S employment offices.
Rev Chester M Irwin 57 pastor of Savanna Presbyterian died in Savanna City Hospital after illness at church. Funeral in Savanna with burial in Atlantic City. Also noted are deaths of Fimer Leroy Palmer and F. T. Putnam in Mt Carroll and William Ackerman. multiple survivors listed. Savanna, Mt Carroll and surrounding area notices include services scheduled and burial details.
Lawrence Rice 17 and Robert Rice 16 of Thomson were bound over to the June grand jury after waiving preliminary hearing on a charge of maliciously injuring a domestic animal to destroy its life. Bond set at 500 each. held in county jail. Two complaints allege dog shootings by the Rice cousins, one killing the dog, the other wounding it but not killing. Sheriff Eber Shepherd arrested them Friday morning at Thomson.
Fuhremann Canning of Lanark appeals for local labor for the upcoming pea canning season. The seasonal job runs only for a few weeks with pay for hours worked. The cannery emphasizes patriotic duty, welcomes workers with any disability, and invites interested residents to contact the Lanark plant.
A Savanna chamber committee reports Illinois law forbids city ownership of property in other municipalities and urges independent surveys. The panel led by Glen B. Laughlin flags service continuity concerns for customers in several towns and the Milwaukee railroad and dam 13.
Chaplain Floyd Vv. Brewer, Coast Savanna ordnance depot, promoted from first lieutenant to captain effective June 10. He has served at the post since October 4, 1942 and resides at Proving Park Villa near Savanna. His son Pvt John Mest is stationed at the Mississippi Ordnance Plant in Jackson, Mississippi.
Charles Harris is named chairman of Carroll county War Meat Committee as part of Illinois war meat program oversight. Members include Clarence Van Buskirk Loyal Law W L Derrer Kenneth Whitney and Lawrence Bruci tasked with routing livestock ensuring slaughter permits and rationing, promoting sanitation and reporting violators to FDA. Eric Tillman will meet with the committee and county USDA board in Mt Carroll this evening June 17 at the Triple A office.
The Carroll county board of supervisors appropriated 300 for the 1943 4-H club program after Farm Adviser M P Roske outlined requirements. Costs are lower due to reduced enrollment with about 50 past participants now in the army. The program is financed by the county state and Farm Bureau. In 1942 202 boys and girls enrolled with premiums totaling over 1400.
The Carroll County selective service board ordered a group of men to report to an induction station for potential military service. The list includes Warren W. Hamilton, Lauren L. Truninger, Albert W. Champion, Stacy K. Potter, Mike T. Henry, Lester C. Grim, Randal R. Carpenter, Joseph V. Dell'Oso, Frederick T. Colehour, Ralph O. Shook, Earl W. Hess Jr., and others.
