Centennial Balloon Drifts 700 Miles To Lewisburg Pa
Lanark released nearly 2,000 helium centennial balloons with the aim to herald the June celebration. One balloon drifted about 700 miles and was found in Harold L. Schreckengast’s garden in Lewisburg Pennsylvania in good condition. Reports of other discoveries came from Ohio Wisconsin and Indiana. A prize will be awarded for the farthest traveled balloon.

May DHIA reports show Merna Zemke and Son Holstein leading Unit 2 with 2810 pounds milk and 112 pounds butterfat. Wallace and Mintke top Unit 2 herd average at 1467 pounds milk 54 pounds fat, while Unit 1 records include Stransdale No. 1 cows at 1990-103 and 2180-85. In total, 779 cows in 24 herds were tested in Unit 1 and 480 cows in 16 herds in Unit 2.

Stockton man fined for OMVI in Carroll county court
Max Marks of Stockton was fined 100 dollars plus costs for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in Carroll county court. He was picked up near Savanna Sunday night by Sheriff Harry Miller after a resident notified authorities. Joe Edward Oppold of Stockton, arrested with Marks for being drunk on a public highway, posted a 25 dollar bond but forfeited it.

Car stolen near Center Hill recovered next night
A Savanna resident reported his car stolen Sunday night. Deputy Gorman found the vehicle parked in the road south of Center Hill, missing rear wheels and tires, and towed it to a Savanna garage. The owner saw the car back out of Jack's Place and head east on Route 64. Blanche Sweeley was arrested for drunk driving in Thomson and faces a court hearing Friday. Marriage licenses were issued to Alfonso Cantu with Bonita Wells, John Nixon with Beth Tallakson, and Guy Leckley with Anne Meyering. Marion Hartman, longtime deputy county clerk, is ill in a Freeport hospital for about two weeks.
