Kenneth Erbsen of Lanark was unanimously elected to membership in the Ayrshire Breeders Association. Announcement came from National Secretary Chester C. Putney of Brandon, VI. Rock Creek Grange Dedication Draws 250 Attendees

About 250 guests and members attended the Rock Creek Grange hall dedication service on Sunday June 6. Dorsey Kirk State Master officiated with local officers present. the debt free hall was praised, and a program featured solos, readings, and talks by state officers and area Granges. Committees organized decorations, refreshments, and publicity for the event.

Death notices from Savanna honor two local residents

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Daisy Fosdick Williams 74 who died May 31 in Mill Hollow near Savanna. Rev A Stanley Beck led the Savanna burial at Savanna cemetery. Also interred was Joseph Williams Allen 77 who died June 2 in Savanna city hospital after May 27 admission. He was a National Food Store employee and survived by wife Salinda, a son Russell, two daughters, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Roger Walker graduated from Carthage College on May 31 and is home briefly before moving to Hardwick Vermont to serve as a counsellor for the New York Institute for Education of the Blind. He earned a scholarship for a year of graduate study at Hunter College.

Sibley Shows Brown Swiss Champion Bull

A large crowd watched Prof. C. S. Rhode of the University of Illinois place the Brown Swiss cattle at the Canton No. 2 show held at the Freeport fairgrounds. The senior and grand champion bull Norvic Chipin was exhibited by Robert Sibley of Chadwick. The senior and grand champion cow went to Perry and Carl Keltner of Pearl City on Blackland La Maiden. Elmer H. Habben of Morrison showed the junior champion bull and Mrs. Olivia Roos of Oregon the junior champion female. Several exhibitors took first in various classes including Lee Johnson, Frank Ochsner, Truman Sibley, Raymond Kaiser, and the Keltners who also won mammary class and best three females bred and owned by exhibitor. The show featured 4-H and FFA judging with 25 youth entering. Don Kaiser of Dakota won the overall showmanship, receiving a Swiss bell.

Forty members and friends of the Carroll branch AAUW surprised Dr and Mrs A J Brumbaugh at the Wise home in Lanark where they had been dinner guests. The event honored Mrs Brumbaugh for organizing the Mt Carroll branch and serving as its president for two years. Dr Brumbaugh discussed early teaching experiences and plans for Florida. Chadwick FFA judging team with 702.0 points topped the Canton show conducted with the Brown Swiss event in Freeport. Twelve schools competed. Morrison, Shannon and Forreston followed. Morrison ICA Plant Sold To American Air Filter

Completion of negotiations for the purchase of the Morrison by American Air Filter Company was announced last week. The plant will be operated by the Herman Nelson division and will manufacture component parts now sub contracted to various companies. Conversion to start late this month with about 200 employees in full production.

Gas Truck Fire Destroys Vehicle on Route 80 Bridge

A fatal crash occurred on Route 80 near Thomson when a Clinton car struck a 5600 gallon gasoline tanker. Bernard Jensen 24 died at the scene, Jean Putman 15 died later. two sisters survived. The tanker exploded, blocking the bridge and burning a nearby Stage house.
