Two Fatalities From Route 40 and Nearby Collision

Former Savanna Teacher Lewitt Dies in Chicago

Chuenee Lewitt, former Savanna city schools superintendent, died Friday night at his Chicago home after years of declining health. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Presbyterian Church in Apple River. Lewitt, born in Apple River about 65 years ago, came to Savanna in 1914 and led the district for 14 years. He married Florence Holloway of Savanna in 1920. surviving are his widow and daughter Suzanne of Chicago.

Building Destroyed By Blaze In Mt Carroll District

A Monday blaze gutted the interior of the William Isenhart building a one story frame structure in Mt Carroll's business district near Market Street.
