Springfield reports changes to filing dates under new law. Secretary of State Edward J. Barrett announced that filing opens 85 days and closes 78 days before the primary. Withdrawal allowed 73 days prior, with five days reduced to three for withdrawal after final filing. The Certifying Board will certify candidate counts for General Assembly representation. The senatorial committee must meet 70 days before the primary and file its resolution GR days before the primary. The changes will be in the 1948 Election Calendar.

Four Collisions Over Weekend No One Badly Hurt
Four weekend auto crashes in the Savarna area left minor injuries to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Lego of Blackhawk Village and lacerations to Mr. Lego. Forgery convict Frye gets three to five years
Hubert Frye aged 50 pleaded guilty in Carroll county circuit court to forgery and was sentenced by Judge Leon A. Zick to three to five years in the state penitentiary. He will be transported to prison this week after being arrested July 5 for passing checks with forged sheriff’s name. A long criminal record including multiple forgery arrests since 1919 and numerous prior prison terms is noted. FBI reports say he admitted wanted status on forgery charges nationwide.

Mrs. Andrew L. Sandholdt 84 died July 24 at 9 25 am at the Savanna area. She was born in Denmark in 1863 and came to the United States at 19. Surviving are three sons William H Hansen Arthur P Hansen Bert L Sandholdt three daughters Joseph Kobbe Harry Krahn Vernon Bashaw two sisters 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One son Peter Hansen was killed in Europe in World War II and a local American Legion post bears his name. Burial was in Savanna cemetery. Funeral services were held at 2 30 pm Sunday in a Savanna funeral home with Rev Raymond Kronberger officiating.

She was the widow of Wilbur Keim and is survived only by her daughter Mrs Hawk. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Mt Carroll Methodist church with Rev Frank Countryman officiating and burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Born September 1 1865 in Lawrenceville she farmed near Mt Carroll before moving to the city.

Sailor Quieted After Lanark Jail Fire and Shore Patrol
A seabon identified as C. J. Pack was removed from a Milwaukee westbound train at Lanark after causing trouble aboard the Arrow. He overpowered Lanark officers with a duffel bag, broke glasses, and was later jailed where two arson attempts occurred. Sheriff Henry Truninger said Pack refused food as a shore patrol arrived and he remained in solitary.

OWA youths bound over for larceny in Savanna case
Two Dubuque boys Richard Sheldon and Robert Basten were bound over to the Carroll county grand jury on larceny charges after admitting to taking 1765 dollars from Mrs. Wilma Burress of Mt. Carroll in a Savanna ice cream parlor on July 4. They posted 400 dollar bonds each and related a lengthy itinerary involving a canoe, an outboard motor, a circus, and a stolen car before ending in Duncan Oklahoma for arrest.
