Draft Deferment Policy Meeting Set For Aug 7

Carroll and Whiteside counties will send representatives to a Rock Island meeting on August 7 to discuss deferment policies for factory and farm workers. Lanark Youth Charged with Grand Larceny

Ellis Butts age 14 of Lanark is held in Stephenson county jail on grand larceny charges. He allegedly stole a pocketbook containing 21 dollars and papers from the Sam Snitcher barn near Pearl City on July 21. Deputy Ray Mead recovered 16.75 dollars. the youth is said to have spent the rest and discarded birth certificate and driver’s license.

County gravel road project planned to start soon

County officials announce plans to advertise for bids on the west half of the long awaited gravel road through Fair Haven and parts of York and Wysox townships. Steel shortages delayed prior plans, but culvert adjustments may allow construction this year with possible limited use of existing bridges.
