Coast Guard River Patrol Begins Duty on Mississippi
The United States coast guard patrol boats are deployed on the Mississippi River area near the Savanna ordnance depot. Col. L. P. Crim, depot commanding officer, says several boats and crews have been assigned to guard these waters, which had previously been unguarded aside from civilian and military guards.

Porter Herd Leads Carroll County DHIA in July
Sixteen registered Brown Swiss cows owned by R. R. Porter and Son topped the Carroll county DHIA for July with an average 88.7 pounds of butterfat and 918 pounds of milk. The Sterling office of the United States Employment Service moved to 112 West Street Rock Falls on Saturday August 1.
