Melon Growers Hear State Man Plan Monday Meeting

About 25 melon growers gathered at the town hall Wednesday evening to hear Mr. Day of the Illinois Fruit Growers discuss centralized marketing of melons. He outlined higher returns through standardization and centralized handling, with a potential start this summer if sufficient interest is shown at Monday’s Thomson meeting led by Mr. Roske.

Church and Union Services Fill Sunday Schedule

Sunday services were held at St Peter's and a picnic at Old Mill Park in Savenna. Over 30 attended. No church services this week. The Baptist Union Church hosted an evening service and an all day aid society meeting is planned for Aug 3. The Live Wire class met at Bruce Gro's home with hymn, prayer, reading, and a crxephone solo. Refreshments served, social committee named. Sunday school at 3:30, preaching at 10:30, union service at 5:00 p.m. Rev Todd preached. Sermon emphasized Christian stewardship. All Methodists will meet at Argo-Fa for a 7:00 p.m. union service next Sunday. Monthly board meeting planned for next Sunday afternoon at 2:30.

Mrs Glen Ashby and two daughters plan a week or two in Wisconsin visiting Mr Ashbys sister Mrs Paul Holding and her family. They will meet Sunday at Madison for a picnic. 4-H CLUBS PREPARE FOR COUNTY ACHIEVEMENT DAY AT MT CARROLL

4 H girls completed the year’s work and prepare for the annual achievement day to be held Friday July 28 at Mt Carroll. Judges Mra K B Carpenter Mrs Otto Switzer and Mrs Joh Carroll evaluated garments. Virginia French won first in year one Hazel Ashpole first in year two Ariyne Adams first in year three and Prudence Grebaring first in year four. Adams and Grebaring will enter garments in county show at Mt Carroll. Each club must provide one name for the program and Prudence Groharing will represent her club with a care net solo. Show titles include Lois Marlindale Tore Robi nm Artiste Adams and Harnet Weatherexx from the first second third and fourth years respectively.

Connie's Grove Dance Night With Luther Geisinger Orchestra

Luther Geisinger and its orchestra Thomason have been booked to play for a dance at Connie's Grove Wednesday night August 20. The group previously performed at the Grove on Fourth of July and will reprise lively tunes for the Riverview area crowd. Riverview orchestras also provide music for the evening dance, with emphasis on a strong night of regional entertainment.

Picture Show Scheduled Saturday Evening in Thomson

Charges Employee With Money Theft at Maas Dairy

Clinton, 36, was arrested Thursday afternoon by police on larceny charges for allegedly misappropriating a small sum from his employer John Merends, proprietor of the ML T dairy. He was picked up at Eighth Avenue South and Tenth Street. Arraigned in Franklin Court, his hearing was set for 10 p.m. Saturday. The information alleges he embezzled $5.71 belonging to the dairy. Mrs Casselberry and daughter Rhea of Wacker were named in the case along with Margaret Emmers of Madison, Ed McGinty, and Lois Carrell who visited Clinton Wednesday.
