Isabelle Donnelly Atkinson, born August 31, 1916 in Milledgeville, died at her Clinton Iowa home on Saturday. Her husband Glenn W. Atkinson survives along with her parents James E. Mr and Mrs Ned Spencer opened a general store in Argo after relocating from Chadwick where Spencer worked at Handel Implement Store. The oat harvest is finished and threshing begins. Wreck Near Cordova Halts Rail Traffic For Days

About 40 Milwaukee freight cars piled into a ditch near the United Gypsum plant at Cordova after a broken wheel caused a derailment on a 60 foot bridge. The wreck halted road traffic for several days while wreckers worked and trains were rerouted via Savanna and the Iowa side. Hundreds visited the scene as officials predicted repairs by week’s end. Mr and Mrs Glen Kendell of Ashton and Bert Robinson left Tuesday to visit in Iowa.

Grain harvest threshing begins under warm, sunny skies

Clear skies and warm weather last week sped the small grain harvest in the area. By Monday morning several threshing rings were in operation, though outfits appear fewer than in past years as many farmers are combining. Some follow with pickup balers to save the straw.

Mt Carroll girl learns borrowing auto is costly

Miss Sally Abrams 15 of Mt Carroll was fined 25 dollars and 11 dollars costs after pleading guilty to driving without a state license. The hearing was by Justice Frank Schroieppel. She borrowed a car from William Wilson, struck a parked vehicle owned by Orville Rogers, and left the scene. Witnesses followed, a warrant was issued, and she paid 95 dollars for repairs with 65 more estimated.
