State Entomologist H. B. Petty and Farm Adviser M. P. Roske report a statewide two day survey finds corn borer infestation in Carroll County far below last year with wide field variation. Counts reach 860 per 109 stalks in Lanark area and 460 in the west with some as low as 144. overall county infestation is about 50 to 65 percent of 1945. Both experts say the current damage stems from the first brood and the second brood will arrive soon followed by a potentially heavy fall infestation.

Mrs Myrtle Colehour 69 died at her Mt Carroll home. Funeral services were held at Mt Carroll Methodist Church with Rev Frank Countryman officiating and burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Born Myrtle Bashaw October 24 1876 she spent life in the area and was survived by a foster brother and two foster children.

Hope to Hold a Celebration After Danger Is Past
The Clinton centennial celebration scheduled for August 10 13 was canceled after an oil health officer warned polio danger in Clinton is acute and growing. Clinton county had eight polio cases seven in the city with five in the six days before the announcement. The group kept its organization intact to plan future festivities after infantile paralysis subsides, possibly after October 1. Mayor John W Carlson warned he will close the city if the disease spreads to adults.
