State lawmakers enacted a measure in the last session to remove penalties on delinquent taxes for 1924 to 1933 if certain conditions are met. Taxes must be paid through 1928 to qualify and payments made by August 1, 1935 or later avoid penalties. if paid in 1935 and 1936 a five percent annual charge applies. Delinquents must obtain an order from the county clerk directing acceptance of back taxes plus costs. Payments may cover one or more years in 1935 and 1936 until fully paid. If the full amount isn’t paid by year end 1926 credit is given only for paid amounts. the rest incurs normal penalties and costs. County officials note uncertainty about effects on delinquent taxes paid prior to enactment and a case is pending in Winnebago county courts. Delinquent taxes in the county totaled about $40,090 at start of the year, with roughly $10,000 paid to date.

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Ferguson of Savanna celebrated their golden wedding with a Sunday picnic at Old Mill Park. The couple’s anniversary occurs in September, but relatives and friends gathered early during their Minnesota and New York visit, with more than 50 attendees.
John B. Payne, AAA comptroller, shows total expenditures for the twelve month period ending June 1, 1055. funds disbursed were $918,043.19, leaving a balance on hand of $150, Bay Bee. Rental and benefit payments to Carroll County farmers for 11 months totaled $466,404.89, with $1,158.54 paid for wheat acreage reductions and the remainder to corn hog contract signers.
The new shelter at Palisades Park north of Savanna is finished adding beauty and convenience. CCC workers built the stone walled structure with a central fireplace and restrooms, while CCC and state crews completed surrounding park improvements including trails rock garden and drinking fountains. Visitors frequent the park on Sundays for picnics and to view the Indian Head rock formation near the main entrance.
Weekend storms caused scattered crop losses with oats and corn down in spots. Lightning struck cows near Mt Carroll and Salem, killing several cattle and injuring others. Towns like Savanna faced transformer failures and power outages while roads near Thomson Argo-Fa were washed out, and state crews cleared mud across county streets.
Carroll county board of review met Wednesday and will reconvene Thursday in Savanna city hall to hear complaints on 1935 assessments. Final days to file are Monday and Tuesday, July 20 and 30, with sessions in Mt. Carroll. no complaints accepted after July 30.
A large Whiteside County Old Ace Pension League gathering is set for Thursday July 25 at 7 p.m. at Water Works Park. Rep. D J Collins will discuss the Old Ace Pension Law in detail and explain its provisions. All are invited, with special music by W 3 Cooper, president.

A large hay shed on the George Martin farm about three miles east of Shannon burned Thursday afternoon after hay storage of about 23 tons was completed. Fire spread was stopped by Lanark department crews from Bathurst. The blaze, likely caused by spontaneous combustion, caused about 1500 dollars in loss, partly insured.
Farm Bureau officials announce the start of a safety club open to youths aged 11 to 22. The program aims to teach safe driving and traffic rules for both drivers and pedestrians, addressing rising car speeds. Membership is free and participants will enjoy activities plus valuable instruction.
The Ideal Farmers club gathered at the Ideal church for its regular monthly meeting on a Wednesday night. Participants presented a program featuring community singing, prayers, recitations by Helen Hans and Carol Remmers, performances by the Watermelon trio and male quartet, and a talk by Dr. Pettitt of Morrison.

Joe Deets arrested near Milledgeville last week on horse stealing charges was bound over to the October grand jury after a hearing. Bonds fixed at 5000. failed to post, remanded to county jail. Sheriff Hamilton said Deets admitted guilt but gave no details. Also present were George Schneider and Alvin Diffenbauch, tied to the stolen horses.
Mise Gladys Barlow of Savanna and Conan Patel of Bulion wed Saturday in a single ring ceremony at 7 o clock. The Rev. Synwell officiated. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Smiley and Mr and Mrs Bailey. The bride has lived in Savanna for years and graduated from Savanna High School Class of 7. The groom works on the Shansky farm south of Savanna. They will reside in Savanna.
Officials say Minvis Emergency Relief commission has not affected Jo Davi and Gyle counties by the recent order ending work relief in 48 rural counties. Farmers struggle to find aid as harvest nears and the 40 cent hourly wage on relief projects limits appeal. Other states issue similar orders with relief often halted nationwide.
Government engineers report no equipment or workmen at Lock No 13 site north of Fulton. Rumors say construction will begin after Washington approves the McCarthy Improvement company bid. Labor shifts come from relief rolls, not National Reemployment offices.

Shannon girl Dorothy Shirk won first in the Mt Carroll county 4-H style show and will enter the state fair in Springfield. Priscilla club members Addie Dieterman and Ze lla Potter placed in clothing display with other winners named in judging and demonstration teams. The event crowned district entrants in Dixon on July 25 and sent Dorothy Shirk to the August 23 state fair.
Thomson Indeeds were unable to overcome a four run lead by the Farm Bureau nine in Fulton last Friday, losing 6 to 3. Attendance was light due to heat and other attractions. Both teams missed regulars, with Ginie, Quail Adams, and Murphy helping. Milledgeville to meet Mt. Morris next Sunday. Farm Bureau heads to Morrison.
More than 90 people attended a Family Day gathering of the Church of the Brethren and the Methodist Episcopal church of Wacker Sunday at Old Mill Park in Savanna. Rev. William Kendall led the marching sermon as joint choirs and orchestra provided community singing, followed by a basket dinner. In the afternoon Rev. W. S Feltwiech spoke, honoring intermediate Sunday school pupils and teachers with certificates for their recent work.
