Transient Killed on Milwaukee Rail Line Near Savanna
The mangled body of a transient identified as James Koski with a social security card was found between rails of the Milwaukee Hiawatha main eastbound line near Savanna shortly after six o clock Saturday night. Railroad officials believe he fell from a freight train and was run over, with uncertainty about four trains passing earlier. An inquest conducted by Coroner J B Schreiter ruled death by being run over and mangled by a Milwaukee railroad train. A short funeral was held at Savanna cemetery.

Start Work On New Church At Chestnut Park
Excavation for the basement of a Pentecostal church at the lot north of Chestnut Park school in Savanna began last week. The frame building measures 30 by 50 feet with a concrete basement featuring a Sunday school room club room and kitchen. The main floor will hold an auditorium and two or three smaller rooms.

Railroad Worker Dies After Car Wheel Crushes Legs
Ray Gunn a 48 year old Milwaukee railroad employee at Savanna died in Savanna hospital after both legs were crushed by a freight car wheel. The accident occurred on a sidetrack near the Savanna elevator as a second grain car rolled and pinched his legs. Gunn was found conscious and removed to the hospital after the car was moved five feet.

Carroll Man Escapes Injury In Route 52 Crash

Savanna Man Severely Injured in Storm Car Crash
Thomas Davis, 56, of Savanna, was struck by a car driven by Victor Fitzpatrick during a Thursday night storm. Davis suffered multiple fractures and was taken to Savanna hospital after the 11:40 p.m. collision at Routes 80 and 52 while crossing the junction. Fitzpatrick, also of Savanna, stopped to aid Davis and notified police.

Savanna Men Escape Burning Boat on Mississippi
Thomas Ballas and Frank A. Herbert Jr. of Savanna escaped a blazing outboard boat on the Mississippi River last Wednesday evening. They donned life preservers and jumped to shore. both uninjured. The boat, owned by Wilmer Layman, was destroyed with about 250 dollars insured.

Arthur Fulrath of Savanna, a welder at the ordnance depot, suffered deep burns to face chest and hands when an acetylene torch exploded in the machine shop around 8 30 a m Saturday. He received first aid at the depot hospital and was moved to Savanna hospital in good condition.

Coroner Rules Chadwick Driver Not at Fault in Polo Crash
Charles Kness, truck driver for Handel Brothers, was exonerated by an Ogle County coroner's jury in the Polo head on crash that killed Eldon C. Myers. Myers, en route to Chicago to visit a son ill in hospital, died minutes after the collision on Pines State Park road. The jury urged widening the two narrow bridges or removing park route signs. Myers leaves six children. his wife had died two years earlier.
