Deputy Arthur Smith chased him across a railing, catching Edwards who had just had a hearing and faced a $1,500 bond. Edwards was being held for grand jury. Rural Fire Chief Named By County Defense Council
Theodore Colehour of Mr. Carroll was named rural fire chief of Carroll county civilian defense council. Fred J. Rhodes announced after a Thursday meeting. Colehour heads a rural fire committee with M. P. Roske, Sheriff Ray Westfall, Kenneth Flickinger, and two farmers to be chosen by Colehour. Rhodes also said a school for air raid wardens will begin soon, conducted by Eber Shepherd, Joseph Loeser, and Kenneth Flickinger. they attended a Jacksonville instructors' school last month. City coordinators must provide lists of wardens.

Several shipments from Carroll county feedlots led the week’s top prices at the Chicago stock yards. Handel Brothers of Chadwick sold 40 head at 1202 pounds for 13.75 per hundred, a top rate for that weight. Lanark dealers led with 24 head at 1251 pounds fetching 14.00 per hundred, and 46 head sold by Harold Schneider at 13.25 to 13.75. Ed Attig moved 25 head at 1189 pounds for 13.75 to eastern buyers, while Milton Hess offered 1172 pound cattle at 13.00. Woessner of Shannon and other area feeders also contributed high bids.
