Shimer Theatre Opens Monday for Summer Workshop

Frances Shimer college announces its third annual summer workshop and theatre opening Monday. The event runs until August 16 with five plays. Director is Lawrence A Carra, former Shim er instructor, now with the University of Texas dramatics department. A total of 416 young men aged 18 and 19 registered in Carroll County during the fifth selective service registration ending Tuesday night. Registration occurred at the Mt. Carroll local board with volunteers aiding staff over four days. Birth dates will determine order numbers, no national lottery. Authorities note 18 and 19 year olds cannot yet be drafted but pressure to allow induction grows.

Licenses to Marry Hit New June High in County

Twenty six couples obtained marriage licenses in June, the highest June total since 1937, when over 40 licenses were issued.
