Shannon Surte bank president Wilhelmiew was elected chairman of the Carroll County Bankers Association for the coming year at a Mt. Carroll meeting. Glendon V. Weir of Mt. Carroll National Bank became chairman. Don Hiva of Chadwick’s Farmers State Bank was re elected secretary treasurer. Fourteen bankers attended from Chadwick Lanark Mt Carroll Shannon and Savanna.
Town assessors report changes in personal property values across four townships including Lima Wysox Milledgeville Woodland and Treedom. Personal property rises appear in several classes such as autos trucks cattle sheep and hogs with land values largely steady.
Clyde Lahre, 82, and Ysaias Espinosa Jr of Savanna were near Elmwood when Frank Filesnik and Joseph Sehrae fired a 22 rifle at a target. The rifle discharged, striking Espinosa in the arm and Lahre in the thigh. Both were treated. Lahre returned home.
Carroll County grand jurors for the Jie term of circuit court were ordered to return to the county seat for duty on Wednesday July 7 by Fudge Albert Mann in circuit court session Monday. The states attorney plans to present the jury with evidence in another case besides the two returned last week. Petit jurors were also ordered to report for duty on the morning of July 7.
Northern Illinois faced a third torrential downpour in two weeks washing out crops and fences, damaging bridges and culverts, flooding basements, and closing township roads. Rain gauge recorded 1.42 inches. higher totals reported in Freeport and Clinton with hail in Milleddgeville area and rivers overflowing along Plum River.
One hundred twenty six creditors received full payment checks totaling 21901.08 at the agricultural conservation office in Mt Carroll last Friday. The batch, distributed earlier this week, nearly completes the W030 program benefit payments under AAA participation.
A boy, Donald Yucker of Spooner Wisconsin, drowned at Savanna swimming beach after fainting spells. The inquest found accidental drowning. fellow bathers testified he had fainting episodes and may have collapsed while in the water. His body was recovered at the south end of Marquette Park Beach.
The National Dairy Association issued certificates of merit to nine Carroll County dairymen in the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Each herd averaged around 200 pounds of fat for the year ending October 1936. County assessors report rising personal property values in Rock Creek Mt Carroll and Salem townships with Rock Creek up about 10000 and Mt Carroll near 4000 while Salem climbs around 1000. Several townships finished earlier this week. Pair Haven lags. Land and town lot values see minor changes. Lanark town lots up to 451195 from 443655 in 1936.
Four Carroll County livestock raisers shipped to the Chisago Stock Yards midweek. Greonawalt Brothers of Lanark sold a carload of 014 pound cattle at 14.15 per cwt, the yearling top. O. M. Bloyer shipped 13 head near top prices. Dennis Schreiner of Lanark earned 14.60 per cwt for 18 head of 2252 pound steers. Frei Guenzier sold two loads of 1397 pound steers at 14.50.
Bands and drum corps will parade as part of Savanna's big reunion events July 5 to 7. The closing parade, led by six county units, will start at four pm and feature dozens of veterans, colors, auxiliary units, and floats with prizes for best decorated and most comical entries.
