Two Physicians Called To Duty In Medical Corps
Dr J C Garland of Mt Carroll has orders to report February 10 for active duty as a captain in the army medical corps. He will report to Scott Field for a physical then proceed to Fort Sam Houston Texas if qualified. Heavy snow falls over Sunday in area
Residents spent Sunday and Monday digging out after 8 to 10 inches of snow fell Saturday night and Sunday. Motor traffic was lightly hampered as there were no strong winds, but uncles with chains faced trouble on city side streets. Highways plowed steadily. streets and gravel roads remained slick with packed snow and ice. Drifts were manageable and a strong wind could have blocked roads like the storm a year ago, when many schools closed.
Carroll Man Falls From Truck In Mt Carroll
Louis Hamilton, 50, of Mt Carroll, fell from a truckload of baled straw during unloading at Cole hour stables in Mt Carroll. Taken to St Francis hospital in Freeport, he sustained a fractured skull and a broken collarbone and remained unconscious that night. Helpers could not explain the原因. First aid was given at the scene before hospitalization.

Illinois Draft Quota Set For Feb 10 to 28
Illinois announces a February draft quota of 5,213 with 2,346 to be drafted outside Cook County. State director Paul G. Armstrong says volunteers not yet called will be absorbed, excess volunteers may be reassigned, and January calls aim to be completed before February starts. Camp Grant near Rockford ready to induct 2,500, with capacity for 10,000 and as a medical corps training center. Carroll County has not yet contributed January inductees.

Judicial nominating delegates set for April 1 election
Delegates from both major parties will meet next week to nominate candidates for the vacancy on the 15th circuit bench. Members of the Mount Carroll Horsemen's association enjoyed an informal dinner at the Hotel Glen View in Mt. Carroll Friday evening. Officers reelected for the coming year are C. R. Colehour president Mary Holt vice president and Mildred Hurley secretary treasurer. Miss Hurley reports the club has 184 members as of Dec 31 1940. No more circuit court sessions are expected until March 3 when Judge Harry Wheat of Freeport will open the March term at Mt. Carroll.

Prime Hogs Marketed at Chicago By Carroll County Stockman
Paul Voeckel of Milledgeville shipped prime Hamp shire hogs to the Chicago Stock Yards. Three butchers averaged 214 pounds sold at 8.15 per cwt and 11 light hogs at 168 pounds brought 7.50 per cwt. Cattle at Chicago hit an eleven year January high with Iowa fed cattle at 16.00 per cwt.

Funeral services for James Bailey of Elgin were held there Monday with burial in Savanna Cemetery. Mississippi Lodge 385 A F and A M led committal rites. Born in England he moved to the United States in youth and lived in Savanna before moving to Elgin. He was brother to mate William Bailey of Savanna. Survived by his widow and two daughters.

State finance director announces December fuel tax allotments
