Two Men Called to Army Induction from Carroll County
Carroll county's selective service board was notified that the February quota is two men. They must leave Mt. Carroll Tuesday morning for the Chicago induction center for a final examination before a year of Army training. The board expects volunteers to fill the quota, with two men already on file willing to enlist. If they pass the physical, no further inductions are needed. This follows a similar two-man call earlier. Only 100 of 2066 registrants have been sent questionnaires to date.

Former Savanna Resident Dies Friday Night
Thomas Drone, 59, a former Savanna resident, died Friday evening at Edward Hines Veterans Hospital in Chicago. His funeral was held Monday at Law funeral home in Savanna with burial in Savanna cemetery. He served in World War I. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Drone. Surviving are his sister Miss Susan Drone and brother Tred Drone, both of Savanna.

Ex-Governor L Emmerson Dies At 78 In Mt Vernon
Louis L. Emmerson former Illinois governor from 1929 to 1933 died at 5 p m Tuesday at his Mt Vernon home. He was 78 and the last Republican governor before Dwig H Green. Surviving are widow two daughters Mrs Harold Watson and Mrs Ben Pope Ward both of Mt Vernon and three grandchildren. Funeral plans not yet completed.

A Rush Carroll purebred Holstein herd from Thomson led Carroll County Dairy Herd Improvement in high butterfat for 1940 and ranked second for January 1941. John Derrer’s Holsteins topped January milk with 1,557 lbs milk and 48.3 lbs fat, while Carroll’s 25 cows averaged 1,115 lbs milk and 46.9 lbs fat. The association’s January average was 834 lbs milk and 31.6 lbs fat across 21 herds with 362 cows on test.

A 15 year old boy east of Mt Carroll was picked up by city authorities while soliciting funds in a residential district. He claimed he was raising Boy Scouts funds and gave another Mt Carroll boy’s name. After a strict lecture, he was returned to his parents who agreed to refund the small amount collected.
