Teavy Snow Storm Hits Friday Area Wide
Colder weather followed a heavy snowstorm that threatened highways this week. About 5.8 inches fell Friday and Friday night near Mt. Carroll, with more than three inches during the day. Snow plows kept roads open while drifting occurred near buildings and fences. Temperature rose to near 30 by Tuesday, but near zero again midweek. Worker Loses Three Fingers In Ordnance Depot Accident
William Davis, a Savanna Ordnance depot employee, suffered a crushed hand at work last Wednesday. Doctors amputated the last three fingers at the second joint on his left hand. He was discharged from the hospital and returned home after the operation.

Sister Of E. L. Kneale Dies In Waterloo Iowa
E L Kneale of Mt Carroll learned his sister Mrs C E Brooks 70 died January 14 in a Waterloo Iowa hospital. Funeral and burial were in Waterloo. Mrs Brooks born Eva Kneale married in Mt Carroll later moved to Waterloo about 25 years ago. Surviving are her husband three daughters one son and two other brothers and a sister.
