Middle States Telephone seeks higher rates in Illinois
The Middle States Telephone Company of Illinois will file an application with the Illinois Commerce Commission this month seeking a rate increase likely between 20 and 25 percent on monthly rentals. Officials cite rising costs, with wages and many materials up over 100 percent, and say net income has declined despite growing phone use. Expenditures for the next thirty months may exceed 3.75 million dollars as the company pursues an expansion program. A deterioration of service or reduced capital investment would result if rates are not raised.
