Smiths Gonery offers S H Trading Stamps with every ten cent purchase paying for goods in cash. Each ten cent fraction earns a stamp, more stamps for larger purchases, with a $100 stamp book to fill. Stamps used for selected items without charge to customer. details explained at store.
A collage of acts and events fills the January 27 program at YCHS. Orchestra, piano duets, stage plays, music numbers, impersonations, and a structured debate highlight the evening. Debating team selections and class updates are noted along with assembly lead Ruth Sheridan’s Friday morning role.
A local advisory board for the Illinois Children’s Home and Aid Society forms a committee led by Daniel Harney with E P Schaech as secretary and M D French as treasurer. Subcommittees cover home funding service and finance as the group plans a community canvass next week to raise funds.
This week marks the start of the second annual spelling contest for country and town pupils. Teachers are urged to hold the spelling on Monday, report by Tuesday, and submit perfect spellers weekly. Forty words weekly invite all grade school pupils, with later announcements on school entries and eligible participants. Luther Geisinger of Savanna visited Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sam and George Geisinger home.
Tom Mix stars in My Own Pal a Fox Films western at York Theatre this Saturday. Adapted from Gerald Beaumont story the film follows a fiery Irish hero joining mounted police with his pony. Olive Borden leads with Tom Santschi Tom McGuire Helen Lynch and Bardson Bard also featured in the cast
The Thomson Dance Club postpones their Friday dance due to scarlet fever scares in the area and Fulton. Officials expect the dance to resume next Friday if conditions improve. Johnny Grawe drives a new Chevrolet truck on the milk route, boosting load capacity. Mrs George Frazier of Savanna is in town on business.
The first semester exams were held January 13 and 14. Report cards go home Friday. parents must sign and return them. Grades use A to E system. concern raised for any grade below C. Emphasis on home school cooperation to address attendance and effort.
The February meeting of the Parent Teacher Association will be held Thursday evening in the YCHS Auditorium. The program features piano duets, grade school and high school quartettes, and selections by Miss Winifred Butcher. A report from the Visiting Nurse will be given, and new auto licenses for 1927 are now available at the Thomson State Bank and Review office.
A high school era basketball game is announced for Friday evening at the YCHS gym between the local grade school boys and a Savanna grades team. A separate note advertises a Purebred Poland China sale on February 18, 1927, by C L Hurless of Coleta HL offering a full herd of purebred Cotswold sheep.
