Utilities Tax Case Is Settled In Illinois County Court
Northwestern Utilities Co of Savanna settled its 1934 capital stock tax dispute by paying 11700 after counsels for the company and special State's Attorney R M Eaton reached an agreement approved by County Judge C L Grove. The company had objected to 17014.86 claiming the 1933 assessment was discriminatory and fraudulent under Illinois tax laws. Eaton explained the settlement reflected prior assessments 200000 in 1932 367000 in 1933 and 239000 in 1934, with the final figure likely reducing tax revenues for several taxing bodies.
