Tax Rates For 1934 Announced

County clerk records show 1934 assessments under extension and notes a county rate two cents lower than 1933 while town rates mostly rise to cover increased relief costs. Corn Hog Program Simplified and County Mortality Report

The 1935 corn hog program in Carroll County is simplified with about a dozen changes. Copies of contracts and rulings will be distributed within ten days at community meetings. Notable revisions expand program operations, remove many crop and livestock restrictions, and allow unlimited feeder pig purchases from contract signers, while capping hogs for market at 90 percent of the 1932-32 base. In December, county deaths reached nine, births 27, with Cinderella Harbaugh and Hester Pittman the oldest decedents at 93 and coverage includes several birth announcements in Savanna, Lanark, Chadwick, Milledgeville, and surrounding townships.

Farmers Sign Up for Terracing Projects in Mt Carroll

Carroll County area farmers may join soil erosion terracing programs at a Mt Carroll courthouse meeting Monday evening led by emergency conservation engineer John Nelson assisted by farm adviser MM Roske. District meetings were held in Lanark and Chadwick. more sign ups follow tonight and Saturday at 7 20 in Mt Carroll and Argo Fa church. Labor will be provided by CCC camp workers and county participation is urged to prevent erosion nationwide.

Carroll County records show 212 births and 199 deaths in 1934. August had the most births, December the most deaths. Stillbirths numbered 4 in 1933 and 3 in 1934, with seven registrars recording monthly totals for districts 73, 77 and 78, led by George C. Williams in Savanna.
