New Dike at Lock 13 Planned At $30,000 Cost

A dike project at Lock 13 will cost about $30,000 with dredging to follow. Stumps are being removed from the river bank area where timber was cut two years ago, and towboat pilots face delays due to lack of upstream mooring facilities.

Captain Wildey Paid Off By Insurance Co

Farle this month Cant. W. W. Wilden of Mr. Carrell wrote to the insurance company that he had not received his policy proceeds. The company replied that Wildey’s policy, written in 1902, was valued by a mortality table ending at age 100, making further valuation impossible, and a cash payment was issued. The agent said this is the first such case in the company’s records.

County Supervisors Close Meeting Amid Road Plans

Carroll county supervisors finished their Mt. Carroll session quickly on Tuesday as worsening road conditions sped their departure. They presented two funding resolutions for late road sections and approved a plan to maintain the Lanark cemetery to Route 88 segment after a federal aid project starts. A surplus commodities depot rent review was referred to the relief committee, with adjournment set for February 11.

Single Payment Plan Adopted By AAA For The Year

E. P. Flickinger announced that farm families in 10 north central states will receive a single AAA payment this year replacing two or three. The plan covers parity and conservation payments while loans under the 1941 program continue. Farmers file one application for corn parity one for wheat parity and a third for conservation. Payments are not expected before June. States include Illinois Indiana Ohio Michigan Missouri Minnesota Nebraska Wisconsin Iowa and South Dakota.

Morris Steers Sell High On Chicago Market

J. K. Morris of Lanark led Monday’s Chicago market with 55 head of his own feeding steers. Thirty nine head averaging 1350 pounds sold for 16 per hundredweight and 16 head weighing 1140 sold for 13.75 per hundredweight.

John Fogel Elected President of County Farm Bureau

John Fogel is named president of the county farm bureau. Democrats of the 16th judicial circuit, including Carroll Jo Daviess Stephenson Lee and Ogle counties, select Mt. Carroll as the nominating convention site for a circuit judge candidate. The meeting is set for 7 30 p m February 5 in the circuit court room.

John Fogel of Milledgeville was elected president at Mt. Carroll with Naaman Diehl stepping down after six years. Davis Crouse and Paul Woessner were named delegates to the Illinois Agriculture convention in St. Louis, with a slate of directors including Hartman Sack Rupp Flickinger Airhart Van Dorn Plock Woessner Good Hall Crouse Richer Fogel. Ralph Fahrney reported 774 members in good standing, 82 new signups, and a 1941 quota of 68. M. P. State selective service director Paul G. Armstrong announced no draftees from Carroll County will be inducted this January. The statewide quota dropped from 4739 to 3114 due to training capacity limits, with DeKalb County the only northern Illinois county asked to supply January draftees.

Morrison Woman Struck by Car on Genesee Street

Mrs. Wilson Stone of Morrison was struck by Cecil George, also of Morrison, while crossing Market Street. She suffered minor injuries including skinned elbows and knees, with broken spectacles. George said he did not see her as he turned east from Genesee Street.
