Spring Arrives With Unseasonably Warm Weekend
Thermometers climbed to 40 degrees Sunday, the highest since last November, with signs of spring in the air. Daytime warming followed nights near freezing, ice and snow largely vanished, and dirt roads grew soft atop a deep frost layer.
Girl Dies After Auto Hit At Savanna Intersection
Diesis Diesis, 12, Savanna schoolgirl, fatally injured at 4 45 p m Monday when struck at Chicago avenue and 4th street by a car driven by Ester Aitken 19 of rural route 1 Savanna. She died ten minutes after arriving at Savanna hospital. County coroner says crushing chest injuries and set an inquest for 10 a m Tuesday. Aitken claimed children ran across the avenue directly in front of her car with no opportunity to stop. She was born February 22, 1935, in Savanna and is survived by her parents and paternal grandfather Elmer Eversoll of Clinton Iowa.

Arrest Three At Ordnance Depot for Trespassing
Three Clinton men Vincent Putman Eugene Putman and Albert Peterson were arrested Friday at the Savannah Ordnance Depot for trespassing on federal property. They were released on $100 bond each after refusing to waive preliminary examination. examination set for Feb 25. Putman and Peterson later fined $100 each for violating state fish and game laws. Authorities say they were cutting holes in ice to seine fish and a seine about 200 yards long was found in a truck.

Autos Collide Near Mt Carroll Injure Four
Four people escaped with minor cuts and bruises when two autos collided head on at a gravel road curve four miles northwest of Mt Carroll. Vehicles driven by Dr W L Derrer and Edward Hovorka sustained extensive front damage. two children Jerry and Betty Edwards rode with Hovorka. Sheriff Henry Truninger investigated.

Fuller assumes public relations officer post at Savanna Ordnance Depot
