Carroll County residents crowded the old Thomson High School gym on Thursday to donate blood to the Thomson Bloodmobile, totaling 122 pints. The event, sponsored by the PTA under Mrs. Donald Schneider, drew donors from Savanna and nearby towns including Fulton Milledgeville Mount Carroll Chadwick Lanark and more. Si Law of Savanna and Joe Rath of Lanark were recognized with pins, while Paul Sites of Milledgeville earned a three gallon pin.

The Thomson Community Unit School District board met to approve last meeting minutes and bills, authorize tuition payments for John Kustes and Janet Geerts, and join the Carroll County Special Education Cooperative for 1969-70. They discussed converting the heating plant to natural gas for potential savings, pursued salary schedule negotiations with the TEA, appointed election judges for April 12, and granted use of the cafeteria for March 29. Superintendent Kennedy reported on student conduct on spectator buses, pending funds through February, planned early March warrants, and added snow days with April May dismissals.

Former Resident Dies in Moline at 92
Mrs. Roby Hall, 92, a former resident of Thomson and Chadwick, died February 14 in Moline State hospital where she had been a patient. Funeral services and burial were in Moline. She was married to Wilbur Hall who died in 1955. Survivors include nieces and nephews such as Mrs. Robert Gelwicks, Mr. Carroll, Robert Carroll, and Mrs. Merle Turney, all of Thomson.

Teacher Recruitment and Retention from Pekin Program
In the January 1969 Illinois Education magazine an article by Ray L. Morelli details Pekin Community High School’s recruitment plan. A seven member faculty and five civic leaders committee host lunches and tours for prospective teachers, helping them learn Pekin schools and community during a four to five hour visit. The program led to a fully staffed Pekin high school for the 1968-69 year.

Fire Destroys Nora Couple’s Home in February Blaze
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rolando of Nora Illinois lost their home and most contents in a fire of undetermined origin that struck Sunday February 9. Thomson High students compete in District Speech Contest
Thomson High School sent eight students to the District Speech Contest in Franklin Grove Illinois. In Round 1 results include Nancy Bruckner first in serious reading and Tom Gray first in original after-dinner speech. An extreme absentee rate hits Thomson school this week with 39 absent in the Junior and Senior high and 18 absent in the third grade.
