Lanark Farmer Wins Conservation Trophy

Alfred Person of Lanark received Carroll County Conservation Farmer of the Year. The event at Mt. Carroll featured awards for the F.F.A. Farm Planning Contest with winners Jim Rath, Wes Temple, Gerald Schultz, Bob Wiltshire, and Kevin Van Zuiden. District Directors were reelected and Kenneth Erbsen of Lanark swept three hay and silage classes.

Schools Expand A V Program

Thomson teachers use non book materials to enhance lessons with records films and slides. An in service training on Jan 30 conducted by Merle Mentz of 3M showcased overhead projectors and transparency production. The district joins the Carroll County Film Cooperative and, with funds, expands AV purchases to about 500 non book items.

Pigeon Club Sets Swap Trade Day in Thomson Hall

The Iowa Pigeon Club sponsors a Buy Sell Trade Day Sunday in the Thomson Legion hall from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. It is the first public event since its October organization. everyone is welcome and admission is free. A bake sale benefits the club.

The Trojans nearly toppled Lyndon at Lyndon before choking in the 4th with Lyndon’s 8 straight free throws. Camanche topped the Trojans 74 68 as Bush Temple and Hook led the scoring. Kennedy Attends Oregon Meeting on Kindergarten Curriculum

Superintendent Howard J. Kennedy attended a Region Two meeting in Oregon with Illinois officials. The session, led by Eileen Iberg from the State Office, reviewed kindergarten curriculum as Illinois law requires all districts to include kindergarten by 1970. Additional workshops are planned across the state this spring for kindergarten teachers.

PTA Smorgasbord Nets Over Four Hundred Dollars

The Thomson PTA held its annual Smorgasbord dinner banquet serving 450 dinners to 350 students 63 SAC Credit Union members and about 70 workers. Gross receipts reached about 660 with estimated expenses of 250 yielding a net around 410. High school volunteers included listed students. Fred Fiet assisted by Bill Gibson of Bath Packing Company.
