Hartman Rites Held in Mt Carroll For Postmaster
The Rev K K Olafson officiated at interment in Oak Hill Cemetery for Mt Carroll postmaster Hartman who died near Mt Carroll after a heart attack. Born Oct 3 1899 to Albert and Mary Hartman he married Edith Butterbauch in 1919 and lived in Mt Carroll. Surviving are his widow a son Albert and sisters Miss Ida Hartman and Mrs Wesley Strouch. He had served in World War I and worked as state highway maintenance man before becoming acting postmaster in 1941 and postmaster in 1943.

Truck Burned After Hitting Bridge On Route 64
Mt Carroll reports a tractor trailer collided with a concrete bridge abutment on Route 64 at about 5 30 am injuring both occupants. Driver Robert Schaub 20 of Chicago jumped to safety. Charles Emanuel 25 also of Chicago was treated at Savern City hospital for possible skull injuries. Firefighters carried out extinguishing with 400 gallons of water.

William Reiling, a Lanark High School vocational agriculture student, wins first in the state Pioneer Hi-Yield Corn Growing Center contest with a yield of 129.05 bushels per acre at 16 percent moisture. He credits Pioneer and notes his soil was brown ash loam with lime and phosphate applied after testing. The field previously grew alfalfa and was prepared by spring plowing, disking, harrowing, rolling, with 2 kernels per 23 inches and five cultivations.

Mrs Minnie Milnes Passes Away After Illness
Mrs Minnie Milnes 76 of Morrison died at home Sunday after a ten day illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Reynolds Funeral Home and at the Methodist church with Rev Harold Gison. interment followed at Hill Grove Cemetery. Born December 27, 1871 in Ustik Township she married Frank J Milnes in 1892. Survived by four daughters five sons 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband a daughter two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Jens Andresen age 90 were held at Zion Lutheran Clinton. He died Saturday in his daughter’s home southeast of Savanna. Born November 10 1857 in Germany he married Anna Nissen Navy in 1884. Surviving are four daughters a son a half-brother twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Burial was in Springdale cemetery.
